We love Austrian/German food! We have been here numerous times always with family. The restaurant is in a strange spot amongst neighbours in light industrial strip mall. The decorating inside makes you feel like you are in Austria (I am told by family). We made reservations for a Friday night at 6pm for a group of 4. The server was... More

The picture does not match what the restaurant really looks like. I agree with GTMcAllister - since the Gasthaus Zur Muehle closed down this is one of the few restaurants left that serves German and Austrian food. Reservations are a must when you come here. The owner / cook can get a little testy sometimes, especially when she's busy and... More

Over the years we have gone to the Bauernschmaus often. We enjoy the atmosphere and the good food they serve. Have not had a bad meal there. I just phone and make reservasations, had no problem doing that. Staff has been very friendly to us and served us well. We will go there again.

Since Gasthaus Zur Muhle closed, Bauernschmaus is one of the few places to find decent schnitzel in Edmonton. Unfortunately, since they don't seem to ever answer their phone and still have not purchased an answering machine (!) it is close to impossible to book reservations. Not impressed with that or the fact it is so short staffed and unfriendly.

This traditional German Restaurant hasn't changed in decades, the menu and decor are all the same. Many varieties of schnitzel and it is all delicious. We come for the food however in recent visits the staff has been mediocre at best. They are not very attentive and lackadaisical in their attitude at best. Were it not for the food we... More

We eat at this restaurant fairly often .. would go more … but it is difficult to get a reservation unless you call early. I always order the Weiner Schnitzel … hubby varies his choices. The mixed salad is great … served with a house made dill dressing. The traditional sides are appalling so I usually don't eat them …... More

My wife and I discovered this wonderful restaurant a number of years ago and it has become our favourite local restaurant. The menu, truly authentic, is quite extensive in terms of schnitzels, both veal and pork varieties as well as other wonderful treats such as roast pork and roast chicken, and other choices. To the hungry patron they serve a... More

Decided to have a birthday lunch here on Sunday. Promptly seated and menus arrived 10 minutes later. Orders were taken after 15 minutes. All 4 of us had schnitzels of varying types. 1 hour later the soup and salad arrived so we thought the mains were close to being served. Another 30 minutes went by when the mains were served... Any time, any day the food is consistently predictable GOOD. Their lunch specials are even better because the food is still good but with that lunch time discount. Never have to worry. If you like traditional German food this is one of the few places in Edmonton still paying homage to 'the old recipes from the Fatherland. Try it you... More

Went back to an old favorite for lunch with my son. The paprika schnizel was excellent as was everthing else. Wow. I hope they never change! Lots of good memories came back of great meals here!
