Lovely & Loaded with Irish Character

We had two lunches at this Irish Pub; one on the patio in the sunshine and one inside. Wonderful atmosphere and great service. Good location...worth the walk to get there.

Enjoyed our meal at the James Joyce Pub and our conversation with an authentic Irishman "Sean". Unfortunately, the floor manager snapped her fingers at him and told him to get back to work as we were collecting info on things to do in the area. That was a shame and the manager should be embarrassed at such crass behaviour. Good... More

Nice lunch sitting outdoors in the spectacular sunshine of mid-May Calgary. Serenaded by a duo of bluesy guitar/sax down the block. The food was very good. I had the vegetarian Boxty, a potato pancake with fresh vegetables cooked in an tasty curry sauce (Irish? I know.) The highlight, though, was the kale salad. Crisp and fresh and lightly dressed garnished... More

I came here two times in one day -- for an early no-drinks dinner just before I gave a talk at the library down the street, and a few hours later, after my talk, when I felt I could enjoy the beer. The dinner, half-sized salmon burgers, was quite good. I was reading my notes to get ready for my... More

Stopped into The Joyce December 23rd for a Guinness and a Scotch. Wanted a McAllan's but they were out, so had a Buschmills 16 and was pleasantly surprised! Great Scotch AND got a free glass as a souvenir! Will definitely be back!

Fun and friendly with good food...we dined here a couple of times on a few day visit. Bartenders very friendly - make you feel welcome and at home. Food good with affordable pricing for Calgary area - pure Irish charm.

Good service in the sunshine. A little crowded on the patio. Good food....salad, shepards pie, burger but the best part was.....amazing frothy, lime margaritas!

Firstly, this place is busy. Like, packed to the brim busy. That being said, I still managed to get a table with my friends. We waited a while for a server to come see us, and 15 minutes later a nice woman with short blonde hair (I forgot to get her name) came up to us asking if we had... More

The food is always good here and there's plenty of variety but the stand out thing with James joyce is the bar. There is so much tasty beer and whiskey to choose from. If any of this stuff was good for you it'd be one of the healthiest places in Calgary. The patio in summer also means I can sit... More

What a great experience. This is an authentic Irish pub (as opposed to the many who falsely advertise as such) and has an excellent staff.
