Pricey, but good food

We got sandwiches, etc. to take on a picnic for our drive on the Icefields Parkway. The sandwiches were delicious and it was a convenient place to grab a snack too.

We stayed at the Chateau one night on our way to Jasper NP. While waiting for our room to be readied we decided to get a coffee and sit outside for a bit. The barista at the deli was a delightful young woman. I ordered a mocha, with light chocolate, and my husband ordered a chai latte with light chai.... More

Decided to make lunch a bowl of soup and a sandwich from the deli rather than wait to be seated upstairs in the restaurant. Big mistake. Choices consisted of stale prefab sandwiches in cellophane (who knows how old?), watery soups, prepackaged crisps and expensive bottled drinks. Worst of all, once we had waited in line for our choices there was... More

After a week at the Fairmont and 2 visits to the Deli, I recommend it reservedly. Granted, it is convenient for something portable, and is open 24/7. However, the staff lacks the personality and efficiency of the staff in the rest of the hotel. The dining area was a mess every time I visited. There was quite a few young... More

Well, like everything at the Chateau Fairmont, of course it is insultingly overpriced, but at least most of the other dining choices are quite good... this was our stop for breakfast one of the days that we were running late and it was terrible. Soggy, clumpy oatmeal, overly-processed and bland breakfast sandwiches, and a coffee drink set us back approx... More

Ok, but nothing terrific. A bit down market looking we found. Food fairly basic and at certain times of the day...towards the end of the day, not much to purchase. But at least it is there as the Fairmont hotel is VERY isolated from the village and facilities.

Don't expect a view or anything from here, but if you're just after something to eat without breaking the bank, this is the place for you. We had lunch when we arrived here and then breakfast the next day as we didn't fancy the bigger (and costlier) restaurant meals on offer.

Reasonably priced food that you can take out on a picnic. This means you don't have to eat in the pricier restaurants in the hotel. Open 24/7.

Name the coffee different, call a medium a large instead of a grande, add a few pastries and double the price and voila, you have the Chateau Deli. There is no view, the seating is barely acceptable but the chateau is nice and there's a gift shop next door. Eat at the lake for ambience.
