Great pub grub

Once again traditional pub fare proved unbeatable. We had Shephard's pie and Guiness Steak pies respectively together with very tasty IPA's.

Nice interior built in Ireland and shipped to Banff. Good draft Guinness and very nice and efficient wait staff. The fish and chips comprised one fish and some chips. The fish was well cooked but a bit gummy and the fries were good but had an unpleasant seasoning. The Dublin mac and cheese was well cooked pasta and diced tomato,... More

A genuine Irish pub in Banff which was built in Ireland and shipped over to Banff and rebuilt there! Friendly and helpful staff, good menu without being overpriced. Live music some nights. It was very noisy the night we were there but it was Saturday.

Had dinner there during our stay. Nice beer selection and my wife enjoyed her drinks as well. We were starving and were really loading up. Our waitress told us we were ordering too much food. I am a big eater and was skeptical but took her advice. We had the stuffed yorkies. My wife and I loved them, delicious. For... More

WE really enjoyed a few pints of Guinness and dinner. I had the liver and onions and my husband had the shepherd's pie. Both entrees were delicious. I had read in one of the local restaurant guides that they have live music after 5pm on Sunday and offer a Roast special. It was disappointing there was no live music and... More

Lively Irish bar and eatery just off Banff Avenue. The menu is varied with soups, stews, salads appetisers (big enough to share!) and mains - too many to list, check out their online menu. We visited several times during our stay and the food was always delicious. It was generally busy but managed to get a seat quickly each time.... More

So this is a pub built in Ireland, shipped to Banff and then reassembled. Excellent variety of drafts, Innis & Gunn being my favourite. Good food. But best of all are the staff. The bar tenders are a real blast. Good stories and fast service. Nothing to fault this place on. We will go there for a pint and dinner... More

I actually asked if this place had changed hands, no one was sure, I love love love this place but both our meals were awful, smaller portions, lacking meat, I had the steak pie and hubby the lamb stew, both had hardly any meat in them and were watery and lacking depth and taste, not sure if we were unlucky... Cute atmosphere, friendly staff. Food was good, not too greasy. Location was perfect, and the night we were there they had live music and the fish and chips were on special. Can't go wrong with that combination!

Who would have thought? It was Irish Night at St. James Gate, and I ordered their liver and onions on a dare. The liver was cooked to perfection, on a bed of yummy mashed potatoes and topped with carmelized onions! With a side of steamed veggies, I have to say this has become a personal favorite! If you think no... More
