A friend and me visited this place two times during our skiing trip in December 2009, and although we were very skeptical about the menu regarding the Guinness marinaded things and other peculiar things in the food, we tried the 8 oz steak at the first visit and the baby back ribs during the second. The steak was perfect and... more

Excellent food from fish to meat, great selection of ales. A bit noisy and crowded but with acceptable service. Music selection was slightly weird--a lot of great Irish music (canned) interspersed with Willy Nelson hits. more

We enjoyed most of our meal - the only thing we didn't like was the burger. The soup that came with the burger was so good we asked for the recipe. Lobster risotto (pub food?) was delicious as was the shepherd's pie. Good local brew and pub atmosphere. We would eat there again. more

Had the seafood boxty, as well as the guinness asparagus soup. Everything was amazing, though watch out for the huge portion sizes! Very nice place inside as well - the owner imported a lot of the decor, booths, snugs, etc. from Ireland, so it's a great atmosphere. more

St. James really is a true-to-form Irish pub. The atmosphere is stellar, the beer selection very good, and the food quite palatable, if not a bit pricey. We fell in love with Dry Creek Cider while we were in Banff, so that's primarily what we drank. Portions were ample. Foodwise: Steak and Mushroom pie - Very good Boxties - Very... more

We were glad to have wandered into this pub after a day's walking about. Loved the atmosphere straight off. Service was excellent and so was the Shepherd's Pie and the Hunter's Stew. more

This pub has become a favorite of ours on our trips to Banff from Victoria, B.C. and it will continue to be a favorite stop. Having spent a week in Banff this summer, this was perhaps the place with the best overall value we have found in town. The food and service are very good, the atmosphere is terrific, and... more

This is a little gem that many people don't know about unless they know Banff quite well. I am from Calgary, but we stop at this pub everytime we are in Banff. Delicious burgers, actually, everything on the menu is amazing--- from the strawberry salads to the yorkshire pudding. Not many people know this, but the pub is the EXACT... more

This pub does not do small portions which is great after a day trekking around sightseeing. We ordered starters and the waitress kindly informed us that the potato nachos would do 2 people so we just oredered the one, boy were we glad of that. Steak brilliant, staff very helpful and friendly, and most important of all good food and... more

The staff were fantastic. Ryan and the dark haired lady behind the bar (who was pregnant) sorry, I have forgotten your name! whizzed around to make sure all the customers were looked after. The food was very good and very plentiful. more
