We had a good meal and a few beers here. The steak sandwich was a plus. The burger was so-so. Server was very good. They had live music the night we went, which was a plus.

We come here quite often and were disappointed in our meals and the attitudes of staff working there. Our one standby, steak and guiness pie, was still very good but the other standby the braised lamb shank was old and tough. It usually pulls right off the bone but was inferior. We have noticed a lack of interest in making... More

This must be what Ireland is like. Great food. We ate here two nights of our three night stay. The Guinness pie was outstanding. Very friendly waitstaff. A wonderful find in downtown Banff. Inexpensive and delicious!

Fish & Chips with beer make for a great meal when you're tired and thirsty after walking around the town! Good service.

St James Gate has a great atmosphere, really cozy in winter, and they often have live Irish music on the weekends which never fails to get people clapping and dancing. The chicken pot pie, shepherds pie, and yorkies are AMAZING! Also, this is the ONLY place to be on St Paddys great craic!

We stopped in here after it was recommended by our waiter at our last stop. Service was prompt & friendly. The décor & atmosphere was awesome. We've never been to Ireland but this place seemed authentic. Highly recommend for a couple of drinks.

My first thought is this bar is a taste of Ireland and looks just like an authentic pub. The young lady who waited on us was very courteous and seated us quickly. Drink orders were taken and we sat back enjoying a pint. My wife ordered chicken pot pie and I selected a burger and fries...both were awesome. Very enjoyable... More

The food in this restaurant was pretty good. I had the turkey and Brie sandwich with strawberries and it was good. Others in our group had the Steak Pot Pie and the Fish & Chips and said both meals were good. Our waitress was excellent - very friendly and accommodating. However the hostess who met us at the door was... More

After driving all day from Vancouver, we landed in Banff and went to the St. James Gate for a beer and a late night meal. Have been here previously and liked it. This time the food was poor. For example, I ordered the fish & chips (pretty standard pub grub) and got ONE piece of soggy fish. My companions also... More

thank you for reviewing St. James's Gate on trip advisor. We have had a couple of responses regarding our fish and chips and are currently working on rectifying our consistency issues with this product. I would appreciate if you could contact me at info@stjamesgatebanff.com. We take our food quality very seriously as it is the key component for our business... More
