We stumbled upon the Magpie & Stump looking for a quick bite. From the outside (and the name) you'd think this might be a British pub. When looking at the menu, it was a surprise to see Mexican fare. Having gluten free needs the menu has many menu items denoted as GF. Upon entering the restaurant the staff were very... More

We visited this restaurant for a drink and then returned the following evening for meal which turned out to be a really excellent Mexican meal, good servings and good flavours. The staff were helpful and cheery. Cocktails du jour were good value as was all the food.

After a long day on the Columbia Icefields, we were looking for a place to relax and enjoy a good Mexican meal. This was our first visit to Banff and discovered this place just off the Main Street. The place was crowded, which is always a good sign. The meal was huge and delicious. There was a good selection of... More

Always visit here in Banff good for drinks, can have your Margarita in a jam jar with a pail of peanuts and it's expected that you throw the shells on the floor. Mexican food is the best anywhere and not stodgy or heavy. It dies get very busy though so get there early

Need to preface this by explaining the title, I do eat at the Stump (at least) once a year and more often each time I head into Banff. Why? 'Cause I never leave hungry and who doesn't love a little Mexican nosh way up north? Food is good, prices average for Banff, and those margaritas - well, those alone may... More

My 2 friends from France and I were out and about in Banff National Park and we stopped to have a light lunch in Banff at the Magpie & Stump. Having not perused the menu at the door, I was expecting a typical pub setting. Instead, we found ourselves in a Mexican themes restaurant. I, myself, love Mexican cuisine but... More

Magpie and Stump, what a hoot. Ma Kettle and I were looking for something a little different during our afternoon jaunt to Banff, and when we saw that name, we just couldn't resist. It is located off the main drag by one block, so it shouldn't be hard to find. Ask anyone for directions, or take a minute to examine... More

There aren't many places you can get a decently spicy meal in Banff, but this place tries. With a decent menu, and a kitchen that is willing to make alterations, you can get your needs met very nicely here. If you are looking for drinks, they certainly have a good selection of beer, and tequila. This place works for a... More
