You have to try the Beaver Tail

There are two of these in Banff. They are somewhere between a restaurant and a snack stand as there is no indoor seating (just a couple of small tables out front). My wife and daughter love the Beaver Tail and had to have a couple more before we left Banff.

Very nice, very naughty, very messy (we had chocolate hazelnut) and did I say - very nice!? We had to go back the next day for another one! Good idea to share.

A bit sweet to my taste, but my children love to stop there and order the beaver's tail (a traditional French-Canadian dessert) every time we go to banff.

A young lady in Calgary told us about this and told us to make sure we tried one. Had the cinnamon and sugar, kind of like a churro in America only flat. Looks like a tail, thus the name; very clever idea for a treat. You can add all the toppings you want should you desire.

I had the cinnamon sugar tail which was tasty, but very messy to eat and they only have a couple small tables to eat at. They also have a great selection of gelato, which my husband really enjoyed.

What makes this place is the fact they don't fry your pastry until you order it, so you receive this hot and that makes all the difference. Go simple, the cinnamon and sugar offering was probably the best, though the beaver bites which are served with yogurt made a nice hot/cold contrast.

For me this was something completely different. Scrummy deepfried sugar coated pastry 'beavertails' covered in pretty much the topping of your choice. I went simple and chose apple and cinnamon. It was delicious - there was lots of finger licking. Don't want to know the calorie content but it was worth it and under $8. Take wet wipes - you'll... More

If you like sweets and pastries this is a must to try. Very interesting concept, wish they would bring it out to the major cities. The basic topping is a sure thing, cinnamon and sugar with crispy puff pastry ('tail') comes out smelling wonderful and tastes hot and delicious. This visit we shared apple pie filling and the chocolate hazelnut... More

Beaver Tails became a regular place to call in and grab a snack from as we walked along Banff Avenue

An oval-esque shape of crispy dough with toppings like chocolate, peanut butter, banana's, crushed oreo's, caramel, other assorted goodies. Just awesome. My daughter who's not even 4 yet, broke down into tears when the items we got were gone. She wanted more.
