Proper cooking in a friendly local

We were staying at the nearby campsite, as were quite a few of the customers. Happily we were also allowed to bring our dog into the bar. Special of the day was Steak & Ale pie - traditional fare in a pub, but this one wasn't Brake Bros. I got a slice of a proper pie, on a plate not... read more

We have become pretty much regulars since Xmas it has become our "go to" venue for family and friends. It's always busy so definitely pays to book. Three reasons I guess. Excellent quality , quantity and value for money. It's hard to turn away from the standard favourites like lasagna, deep fried fish and the pie of the day but... More

Went twice while we were on the island and it was great both times. Got very busy in the evening so make sure you book if you can. Quieter lunchtime when I had Lime and Coriander Salmon with Noddles - just excellent. Would definately head back to the Pointer again.

Visited this restaurant/pub on our holiday to the IOW. Had been recommended this place by family and it didn't disappoint! We hadn't booked a table and got lucky as there was only 1 free, I would suggest to book. The staff (owners I think) were really friendly and welcoming. There was a great menu and specials board. Portion size was... More

We had visited a nearby attraction and had to go back though Newchurch as the road was closed back to Newport and found this little gem. The sandwiches had plenty of filling in proper thick granary bread with a bowl of salad. The crab was tasty and plentiful and the smoked salmon was joined by fresh prawns. Lovely interior to... We were only on the Isle of Wight for a few nights so I checked TA and found the Pointer Inn. Got there and it was packed but they seated us within 10 minutes and took our order at the bar so we weren't waiting for long once we sat down. I opted for the Chefs pie and my boyf... More

We visited this pub following a recommendation from someone who regularly visits this pub. We came for dinner on a Friday evening and we were not disappointed! The food and drinks are fantastic value for money, and there truly is something to suit all tastes. What's more, the portions are huge! We tried to eat 3 courses each but it... More

Out on motorbike and getting cold and hungry, stopped at the Pointer for some lunch. What a find, service was exemplary and food very good, I had house speciality burger, superb real beef cooked to perfection (still a little red), nice bun and great refried chunky chips. Girl friend had house speciality lamb pie, made with leg of lamb pieces... More

My partner booked for a bank holiday lunch - the service, atmosphere and food was excellent. The choice was vast and when it arrived was excellent, very well presented and tasted as good as it looked. Neither of us had room for pudding but did view them coming out for others and they looked fantastic - next time (as there... More
