A New Visit to an Old Favourite - And Very Nice It Was Too.

I had been to this pub for Sunday lunch with my Dad a couple of times between 2003 and 2005 while I was at University in Winchester and I remembered it being in a beautiful place, tucked away from the rest of the world, with great food, décor and being so popular that you always have to book in... read more

One of my favourite pubs. Went many times to have drinks or meals. Do great desserts. I really love the ovington village. So nice to seat outside near the river in summer. a hidden gem

Visited for a family lunch midweek between Christmas and New Year and had a lovely time. They welcome dogs which was great for us, service was excellent and the food overall was very good. Two more unusual ciders on draught too, tried one which was excellent. All food was great, tasty and with good portions with one exception - the... More

This is one of our favourite local places to eat. Went last night to celebrate wife's birthday. Pub was packed and we were allocated to isolated room at the back. However service was good and most food up to normal high standards. But my wife's Haddock (most expensive thing on menu) was small, overcooked and disappointing. Also new potatoes reheated... More

The food is not exceptional but if you find yourself on the river kitchen its worth going in for a drink and sitting outside absorbing the atmosphere it is the perfect location. I recommend going there for a drink. We had ploughman and it was mainly a large wedge of stale white bread with little filling but otherwise I have... More

The Bush's atmosphere hasn't really changed in the several decades we have known it. The decor always was traditional and it remains so. Don't expect the latest furnishings here, as the magic is that you are transported back to an earlier pre-plastic age. The low ceilings and roaring fire are what greet you once you have braved the muddy exterior.... More

Had a lovely lunch with my wife sister and 3 80 year olds - had a starter of salmon which is not on the menu but very generous helping followed by a lovely Sirloin steak with holandaise sause followed by chesse and Biscuits Yum - family had small chickens very well cooked with roast new potatoes - we all enjoyed... I have only been to this pub in the Summer when everyone sits outside - called in to have lunch yesterday and the pub was full. Lovely buzzy atmosphere, we found a table and had drinks. Love the menu as there is a section 'children's portions or those with smaller appetites'. I had fish goujons with chips and my companion... More

Park up 'early doors' set off for a good strut along the idyllic chalk stream that is the River Itchen and return in time for lunch at 12:30pm. Very welcoming log fire, splendid 'homely' ambience. Very nicely 'dressed' table with crackers. We went for the 'classic' Christmas menu, and just loved the tasty soup, traditional roast turkey and Christmas pud.... More

Stopped here for lunch with family. This is a local pub so have been before over the years and it has a lovely location right next to the river with beautiful walks nearby. Unfortunately the food is very average. I had the chef's special which were fish cakes with a salad and chips. It was ok, nothing special but the... More
