Recommended by our hotel we ate three days (out of our four in Mulege) in a row at El Candil ("Scotty's.") Fantastic staff (especially Zulema) We weren't there for the famous pizza Fri/Sat but the lobster enchiladas were amazing and the country fried chicken ("chicken-fried-chicken" on the menu) in home-made country gravy is the best I've EVER eaten, INCLUDING the... Picked this restaurant because it was close to our hotel and it was a good choice. We sat outside in the back garden and enjoyed the chirping birds from the aviary. The menu is pretty extensive, there are specials of the day and a mix of Mexican and pub fare. Servings were plentiful. People watching is an added bonus. Definitely... More

The food was delicious and creative, the staff very beautiful and intuitive, the people watching entertaining, and homemade beer too. At times, the regulars help with menu suggestions and neck rubs for tired travelers. I'd go to El Candil all the time if I didn't live 1500 miles away. Beam me up, Scotty!

This restaurant has a great chef. The "Wet Burrito" with pork is the greatest. The food here is more American than Mexican which is a great break for tourists. Sometimes the standard taco stand food can become routine. Highly recommend.

The beer is always cold! And they have mixed drinks too. Friday's French Dip are well worth waiting until Friday, but any day is good. As someone else said, Scotty is making his own bread and pizza dough. It is excellent and fresh. The food is hot, fresh and the special varies day to day. The wait staff is friendly... More

Great meal here today, plenty of daily specials on the list. Creative mix of hot sandwiches, burgers, fish and Mexican food. The Friday special French Dip sandwich was to die for. Homemade soup, cold beer, pizza on the weekends. Pretty laid back, just like the town of Mulege. No credit cards.

This place is unique. The entry area is the bar, fireplace, and eating area, then to the right is a pool room. If you continue in you will find another bar in the patio and lots of tables ready for a meal. They also have an aviary. Dogs are welcomed in the patio with a lease. The service depends on... More
