Dinning at the Vice-Queen

Right on the main square (Plaza de Armas) of San Luis Potosí, and adjacent to the Cathedral, this is the restaurant in the oldest and, at one time, the best hotel in this city of 1.8 million. The building is gorgeous, there is a small dinning room at the very front, adjacent to the street, where... read more

A previous reviewer is incorrect: the restaurant is NOT gone. In fact, it was the best meal my entire two weeks in Mexico. I ordered the Cabrito Adovado (which is in fact Birria) and it was fantastic. Highly recommended, right on the Alameda.

I'm not sure how this is #1 in SLP. Its fancy enough, the service was typical for the price, but the food didn't live up to its rating. It was good, just not great.

We arrived late in San Luis Potosi and the tour books recommendations didn't result in any suitable restaurants in the main area of the several squares or zocola. I looked up Trip Advisor and led the group to La Virreina which required a taxi ride. We were really impressed with the quality of wood, decor, service and wine list. Everyone... More

Finding La Virreina was a wonderful surprise. The food was excellent, they have menus that are in English. When I asked the waiter for suggestions of foods that were authentic to the area he spoke English and suggested the "Carne Asada Virreina: Having read previous reviews I accepted his suggestion, as expected the dish was amazing. The dessert suggestions were... More

A traditional restaurant not to be missed. You would not be disappointed with the food, I personally recommend "carne asada Virreina", which is served with the emblematic dish of the state: "enchiladas potosinas"; the chile poblano is also highly recommended. For dessert, try "principe Alberto", simply amazing. The service is always correct, the ambiance is very quiet, but sometimes you... More
