Another Great Evening at Smiths of Ongar

My husband and I eat at Smiths very regularly and I keep meaning to leave a review. We are lucky enough to dine out regularly but this is by far our favourite restaurant. Been here so many times and it never disappoints. Service is excellent, food always great and it's a lovely atmosphere. Interesting to see the mother of Dylan from Sheesh Chigwell in there on the next table which proves my previous review about Sheesh must be true.

Wow what can I say this restaurant did us proud. Fabulous service and food all round a great evening. I have dined in some high end restaurants in my time and I have to say this one takes some beating. Shall definitely be returning.

This place is very impressive on so many different fronts. The decor and layout is based on London brasserie style such as Langans with a reception at the entrance to meet and greet. The menu is very extensive and it's reputation is for fish. We had hot Mediterranean prawns in oil which were shelled and large with garlic and chillies... More

From the minute we arrived to lovely warm welcome' coats taken swiftly, upstairs for a couple of well made drinks, an expertly fashioned G&T and a Martini (both perfect). All of our food was cooked with care, good sized options of the best quality ingredients. The native lobster being the star of the show, attention to detail from our waitress... More

We have visited this Fish Restaurant twice and will be going again, soon. The food here is cooked to perfection and such a variety of Fish not seen very often in other restaurants. The Staff are charming and welcoming, and very attentive, a complete joy to visit. Mainly a fish restaurant but with alternatives if you do not like fish.

Been to Smiths before and had a really lovely time. Could not fault the service or food. However, we visited last night for a special occasion and because I have a nut allergy, i was told that I could not have the whitebait or calamari because they are fried in nut oil so I opted for smoke salmon. I ordered... More

The last time that we visited Smiths Brasserie was for my husband's birthday in October. We had a very good meal, but it proved to be rather too large for me!!! It is a pity that you have to have a 3course meal in order to have a reasonable price !!! We only go here for celebrations. We choose this restaurant... More

Went there to celebrate an anniversary on a Saturday night. They operate two sittings at the weekend; we chose the 6.30/7.00 sitting. It was extremely busy and we had the last space in the car park. The food and service were excellent. It is not cheap but the portions are large. We had a starter and main course but could... More
