Disappointing Sunday Roast

On holiday with friends and a Sunday Roast at a nearby pub seemed to be a good idea. The restaurant very busy but was inadequately staffed as service was slow. The Sunday Roast must have been previously cooked beef which was carved on a meat slicer when cold. It must then have been buzzed up... read more

Megrim sole on the bone with warm crab and samphire was worthy of a high class restaurant and yet The Plough retains its friendly pub atmosphere. Service was excellent and the recommended chocolate tart with dark chocolate ice cream to die for. Pity we don't live nearer.

We had seen a previous eclectic and interesting Plough menu but when we visited for dinner the new one had only the usual pub standards, fish & chips, steak, pork belly, burgers etc. We thought perhaps the chef had changed and ordered the burgers as the option least likely to disappoint but when they were delivered, after 45 minutes, they... Stopped here rather close to food closing time. Waitress behind bar very helpful found us a vacant table quickly, drinks and food were ordered promptly, all served with a pleasant smile and gratitude. Would strongly recommend, good food fair prices.

Called in 'on spec' after reading comments on Tripadvisor. I suppose this is a pub but it is really more like a proper restaurant. A very pleasant front of house/barman/waiter who was very - but not overlly attentive. The menu wasn't partucularly extensive, but the food was beautifully cooked and excellently presented.

I arranged for 18 adults and 1 child to have a surprise birthday meal for sister. From the time of my initial enquiry, to arranging to put up banners/balloons the owners could not have been more helpful. The library was a brilliant location for a group celebration. Everyone was complementary about their meals - no mean feat to serve excellent... More

A delicious meal for six to celebrate the end of our son's exams. Great food and warm friendly service - a lovely relaxed Sunday Lunch. Thank you :-)

Overpriced, food only average and fairly low quantity. l The staff were friendly but somewhat patronising. e.g. are we ready to order yet. Disappointed as we had been there previously and thought it was quite nice then. However, I appear to be out of line with the majority of other comments. Maybe because I thought it was a pub not...
