We actually live near Rick Steins fish and chip shop but would always rather travel further to Port and Starboard to get decent fish and chips. Excellent every time we visit and always a friendly smile and chat from Charlie and the rest of the staff are always very pleasant. One criticism is that the set fish and chip meal... More

The Port & Starboard's fish and chips are far and away the best for miles around and great value for money. Fish is always plump, moist and tasty, batter thin and crispy, chips and mushy peas also great.

I was very impressed with the food here. The standard fish was a good size, massive chunks of fish and tasty, thin batter. The chips are most definately not frozen as suggested in a previous post. They were great. I just wish we had a chippy of this calibre at home.

A truly brilliant fish and chip cafe. Large, clean, light and airy restaurant section. The fish is stupendous, great chunks of succulent cod and haddock. Cooked to perfection. The staff work well together and are so organised, nothing is forgotten. So friendly too. When they come to ask if everything was ok, and hope you enjoyed it, you feel they... More

Tried this place out while staying nearby after reading the Tripadvisor reviews. The queue was out the door and the car park full so I was quite hopeful. While waiting in the queue it was obvious it's well used by locals, another good sign. I'm glad to say we weren't disappointed. Great chips and really crispy batter. Also the curry... More

I wish I could leave this review as unrated. Since when did they start using frozen chips !!!! I can't believe I paid £28 for fish and chips for me and my other half and they were frozen. When asked how the food was ( which if I hadn't have been asked I would not have complained ) I replied... More

Visited a year or so ago. Still the best fish and chips we've ever had. We may have to go on the way home to make sure the last two visits were accurate lol.

Ate there recently, the service was good to begin with The chips were low standard. I would almost think that the chips were bought in ' catering pack ' and not prepared to order. The fish wasn't bad, the tartar sauce was lovely. Really disappointed when I tried to explain to Charlie but he wasn't hearing it, just didn't want... More
