Ok Sunday roast but not the best we have had. It was an enormous Yorkshire with the meat inside which was more like a gimmick than a normal Sunday lunch. Vegetable sparse and wishy-washy. Not much flavour to it all in fact very bog standard.

We walked here from Bantham for Sunday lunch. We decided to have the roast dinner and were not disappointed. My beef was tasty, the Yorkshire pudding was lovely and soggy, the veg were Mediterranean and lovely. Really enjoyed the meal. However, the pub is closing for renovation on 23 November 2014 until March 2015.

Having drank here as visitors for 30 years we were really looking forward to a drink and meal at the Hope and Anchor. The beer was ok, the food was just average, and the lack of control by the staff to stop children running around did not help. We left straight after our meal and have not been back. Such... More

I was a little apprehensive of visiting the Hope & Anchor at Hope Cove in Devon. Reviews I'd seen were certainly not good. As noted in another Trip Advisor review, the place seems to have changed hands in recent years. I have to say that in the present incarnation I struggled to find any fault. Staff were friendly, keen and... More

Sorry to say that after a change of ownership the food has gone downhill. We are regular visitors in the winter after walking our Labrador on the beach or walking from Thurlestone via the cliff path or Bolberry but we won't be going back. My wifes soup (Spicy something or other) was so spicy neither my wif or myself could... More

Dear Cookee101, Thank you for your review, and I am very sorry that your experience with us was a disappointment on this occasion. As I have mentioned in other responses, there has not been a change in ownership of the pub – just a change in Manager. The kitchen team are also the same team that have worked for the... More

The H&A has been our local pub for a number of years. If we want a pint and a few games of Pool then it is ideal. Walking distance from home and usually not too busy in the bottom bar. Sometimes we decide we don't want to rush home and cook dinner so check out the menu. There is always... More

Have been coming to Hope Cove for 15 years now and always supported the Hope and Anchor. It's been through several changes over the years but feel its lost its edge of late. Just returned from a weeks stay. Went to Hope & Anchor first night as children tired and hungry. We all pretty much had the scampi and chips,... More

Reviewed this place a while back and gave it a glowing review. Revisited today and how things have changed. Myself, wife and 4 Y.o. Visited for lunch, I had Hope burger, Better half had lamb roast, nipper has sausage and chips from lite bites menu. Hope burger was absolutely uninspiring, nothing more I can say about it really. Lamb roast... More

We stayed near by and used the pub on a number of occasions. We ordered from the light bites menu one day which was very nice food. Nice location when sun is shining. Service was very friendly but not enough staff. Many times we would have to wait at the bar for staff to turn up to serve us. On... More

Dear Jesseboyonhistravels, Thank you for your review, and I am very glad to see that you enjoyed the food and the service during your time here. There were periods towards the end of September when the weather caught us out with our afternoon staffing (the only time we have one member of bar staff is between 2:30pm and 6:00pm). The... More

Dear Karen H, Thank you for taking the time to add your comments to Trip Advisor and for the feedback. I can see from the notes on your review that you visited us in August.
