El Matador is the finest restaurant in San Jose, owned by a former Matador, Pablo Velez. It boasts Mediterranean Mexican dining. It is in a neighborhood next to the Nun's Hospital. Their Scallopine Marsala is to die for as well as the other items on the menu. Please add this restaurant to your list. I can't imagine why it hasn't been on there as we have been eating there for at least 3 or 4 years.

Hemingway Would Have Been Proud

A little out of the way (a six dollar taxi from San Jose del Cabo old city) but worth the drive. Your host, Pablo Velez, is 52 years old. He has been a Matador since age 15, and he brings the passion and pride of his profession to his second great love, his restaurant...aptly named El Matador... read more

Trip Advisor has never lead me wrong, this restaurant is testimony to it. It is a tad tedious to find as street signs are lacking in this residential area away from the Centro district. The search is worth the annoyance. The restaurant is a Spanish courtyard home with the main dining area in a lovely, quiet garden. The menu is... More

The owner El Matador is a very charming and friendly man that has opened his house to guests. He went out of his way to find the fish we wanted (red snapper) that evening, but it was overseasoned (to much salt, maybe MSG, etc), Just basic spices on the grill and it would have been great. Ordered a Sangria to... More

We went to El Matador for my birthday dinner. It is a very quiet, lovely, peaceful location, and nice alternative to the hustle and bustle of the other San Jose Del Cabo restaurants. the owner was on site and came to our table to say hello and welcome. The staff are very friendly and attentive. The food is lovely presented... More

Owner Pablo Velez is a real matador. He gracefully pirouetted around a palm tree with red wine glass in hand. Interior patio of his home makes an intimate setting for dinner. Appetizers are fine, but not as strong as main courses. Chateaubriand for two was outstanding. Grilled seabass was excellent. Mexican lime pie and chocolate lava cake made for tasty... More

El Matador Restaurant should be at the top of anyone's list for restaurants to eat at when in San Jose del Cabo. Pablo Velez, the owner, is an artist with many talents. He truly represents Mexico in old style culture yet his dishes are modern, unique, and burst with flavor. Senor Velez, a professional bullfighter adds flare and color to... More

A little off the beaten path in a neighbourhood. Nothing to look at from the outside, but once you go thru the gates it is a transformation. The courtyard area is beautiful and makes for a very romantic setting. Service was exceptional and friendly. Complimentary house salads were a nice touch. Food excellent and nicely presented. The only disappointment was... More

While dining at El Matador is truly an event, having them provide chef services to your villa for a week is extraordinary! Coconut shrimp and shrimp cocktail are two of my favorites but Pablo has never prepared a bad meal. Their breakfast and dinner are always a sight to behold as they are about presentation as much as taste. Would... More

I've watched the development of Pablo Velez's restaurant over the last few years, from the off the street original outside dining area to the current walled garden main dining space of today. As the restaurant environment has improved, so has the food -.and that was pretty good to start with. Sen. Velez is a bullfighter of renown to which he... More
