Description: El Matador is the finest restaurant in San Jose, owned by a former Matador, Pablo Velez. It boasts Mediterranean Mexican dining. It is in a neighborhood next to the Nun's Hospital. Their Scallopine Marsala is to die for as well as the other items on the menu. Please add this restaurant to your list. I can't imagine why it hasn't been on there as we have been eating there for at least 3 or 4 years.

This is a delightful restaurant and the owner, Pablo, is great. We have loved him since he made coconut shrimp for us back in the days when he used to do private catering. The restaurant is closed on Sundays (we didn't know that) but we happened to get lucky because someone had taken a reservation for a big group by... More

I came in to “El Matador” with very high expectations since all I’ve heard were great things about it. I was not disappointed. I had the Chile Relleno and the chocolate dessert. They were simply wonderful. The service was good and everyone was very nice and polite, specially El Matador himself.

My husband and I have had a home in San Jose del Cabo for 15 years and this is our very favorite restaurant! We love the people who work there and the Chef/owner is great.

Possibly one of the hardest restaurants to find in San Jose. It was worth the adventure by far. Our gracious host Pablo Velez (owner and working Matador') welcomed us and seated us at table in an intimate garden with a lovely fountain, opera music played in the background. ROMANTIC SETTING! We had the Veal Marsala, their signature dish, and it... More

What do you have when you find a charming gem with al fresco dining, excellent food, service and ambience tucked away in an off-the-path neighborhood? Its El Matador restaurant. Legendary matador Pedro Velez hung up his cape and became a chef to open this charming restaurant. His matador outfit is on display in a glass case and matador memorabilia adorns... More

A wonderful, off the beaten path, authentic and unique spot! I would highly recommend eating here. The food is fabulous and the atmosphere is like no other. They often have live music which is amazing!

We showed up 30 minutes before opening. They sat us anyway! They sat us out on the back patio. Beautiful setting. We started with Fried Coconut Shrimp, it was fantastic. Not too sweet. We ordered the sea bass, ravioli, and Chateubriand (beef for 2). Everything was great. Large portions let us share with each other.

as a local gringo resident, we experience the many SJD resturants. On the advise of friends, we revisited The El Matador and had a great evening. Our Ohio visitors were really pleased with the garden seating, art, the informative owner, etc. The owner is a former Mexican bull fighter and he dresses in appropriate clothing - as does he lady... The details of fine dining have been perfected at this unique restaurant. Artistry, charm and irresistible ambiance combine with food of exceptional quality and presentation. Chef Pablo is a gracious host, but it is in his showcase kitchen, visible through open doors beyond the dining room, that the passion and command of this matador truly fulfills every expectation of excellence....
