Molcajetes Extraordinaire

We went to El Herrardo's twice on our recent trip to San Jose del Cabo. Thiis restaurant is known for their molcajetes, which are lava bowls that are heated and filled with your choice of meat, mixed with fresh vegetables and sauce. They are served with corn tortillas made on a grill right at the... read more

Came here twice - lunch and then dinner - be careful when ordering alcoholic drinks as I ordered a margarita and they took the liberty of using a very pricey tequila - and wine at $7/glass is no deal for Mexico but other than that the service was friendly and fun authentic atmosphere with a wide variety of authentic mexican... When traveling, we look for "places we can't find at home". A bonus is "dishes we can't find at home". El Herradero hit it on both counts. A unique restaurant under a thatched roof with hot stone dishes (molcajete) on the menu. The surroundings are festive and everyone is very friendly and jovial. I had the steak, chicken, bacon and... The service was great, Rubin did a great job in his recommendations. Don Jose, served on a volcanic stone, it had giant shrimp and flank steak, cheese and veggies. Filet dish was Sea Base filet in mango sauce, rice and some veggies, it was delicious. Complements to the chef & management for service and wonderful hospitality. Con, it's on a... More

They had good chips and salsa. We tried the queso fondido and we would not recommend it. We had the surft and turf brochetta and it was excellent. We molcajete was really good. The flan was the best! Beers were cold and bathrooms were very good. This place is a bit spendy.

Food is delicious, service is terrific. We have eaten there several times and always take someone with us and they have never been disappointed. Their hot stone pots are amazing. So glad to find they had not sustained severe damage from the hurricane.

The "boys" went deep sea fishing and caught a marlin!! We brought our catch to El Herradero and picked four different dishes that they cooked up for us!! They were all DELICIOUS!! The atmosphere was also great! Very "local" feel... Complete with Mariachi band and nice gentleman selling roses for the ladies! Our waitress, Martha, was AWESOME!! Very friendly and... More

Our family of 4 ate here last night. We had a coupon for a free margarita with meal. The margaritas were perfect. The kids had a piñata and a mango smoothie. Both drinks were very good. The stone bowl with chicken, shrimp and steak were enough for my son (12) and I to share. My husband ordered the Mexican combo.... More

Open air restaurant was rather noisy with traffic, but was tolerable. Atmosphere was pleasant but nothing to get excited about. The food and service was quite good. This would be a nice place to have lunch but not so much for dinner. We enjoyed eating in San Juan but we found 3 other restaurants that we thought were more to... More
