expect small yet reasonable portions (not American gluttonous portion sizes). Ravioli with walnuts was good but not great. Guacamole could use more avocado and less tomato/extras. Of course, it's named El Tomato:). Mostly wish I just ordered something different.

Nice cozy well decorated place with friendly smiling staff great atmosphere ! Seated on arrival with our wine arriving soon after quickly followed by bread and dips. Order taken as soon we made choice and entree arriving within 5 minutes and was delicious. We had visited El Tomato two years ago and had been talking about our experience since then - a very great experience. This time, we were disappointed. It seems like this restaurant needs the owner present in order to meet high expectations. We are not sure if the owner is the same as two years ago, but we were unable... More

During the month I was in San Miguel de Allende I visited El Tomato twice; first with my husband and sister and later just my husband. I really loved this restaurant. The staff was very friendly and well trained. The food was excellent. I had the polenta both times because it was so good that I just wanted to eat... More

The food was delectable, the service was outstanding and the atmosphere extremely pleasant. The menu was extremely creative and with three different entrees, all of us were pleased with the results. If I have one criticism it would be that the helpings were a little too generous. Try the gnocchi; it was outstanding. The staff was very accommodating, friendly and... More

Dinner here was a big disappointment. The caprese salad could have been good, but the tomatoes were hard, which ruined it. The beef lasagna, however, was downright disgusting. It had HUGE chunks of almost raw beef in it...it was horrid. We could not eat it, and nothing is ever taken off the bill in Mexico no matter how undercooked/improperly prepared... More

Hi BriteLite2013, I'm sorry to hear you didn't have a good experience at our restaurant. Our menu does mention that our lasagna is not a traditional Bolognese Lasagna, I'm not sure if you had a chance to read it. In it, we describe that in our style of Lasagna, we use skirt stake and we grill it on the BBQ... More

A last minute change in plans sent us here and we were not all that inspired. We couldn't get water by the glass (that should have tipped us off but didn't.) I asked for a salad along with my entree that came with two sides and was told that I couldn't...then he changed his mind. Wife and sister shared an... More

Hi Tmprinting, I am sorry you feel this way about your experience at El Tomato. And to be fair, I just wanted to clarify some points both to you and to other readers on TripAdvisor: 1) Water by the glass is ALWAYS an option, we never deny a glass of water to ANYBODY and the water that do serve is... We've eaten here before and it was great. This time, it was okay. One of us had the salmon, which was not cooked enough and sent back, but then it was perfectly cooked and described as "the best meal I've had in San Miguel". The rest of us thought our meals were just okay. And we found it quite pricey... More

Cozy little place that implies Italian, although is Argentinian. Might be ok for a drink and entrada. My meal - a house speciality of penne pasta with peppers in a wine broth with sausage was tasteless and the "sausage" was too tough to chew. A glass of red wine was served ice cold - guess perhaps it was opened and... More
