A total disaster

We visited three Argentinean restaurants in San Miguel - Garufa (very good) Bistro Buenos Aires (outstanding) and Virundela. I wish I could say something good about the food. Waiter and owner were pleasant enough but the stuff coming out of the kitchen was inedible. Empanadas were cold inside (some... read more

I found this restaurant through OpenTable since all the first square restaurants were packed with tourists and decided to give it a try. The place is small and charmy. The food is very good and the chef was attentive to our needs and preferences. The pasta was excellent. Meat quality was good too. The wine list offers a nice arrange... More

For the last decade or so Argentinian restaurants have shown up in Mexico La Virundela is one that until a couple of nights ago we had missed in San Miguel. That was a huge oversight. Like many other restaurants of this genre - their specialty is beef. They have a limited set of choices. But don't skip by the appetizers... More

First and foremost, this is an Argentine place. It's slow food. I don't think travelers always recognize that correlation. Second, Laila is great. And she is clearly trying to get this lovely place with a great garden seating area going! That said, there's still some work to be done. Mostly, the service people are young & inexperienced. And bored teenagers... More

From the moment I walked into La Virundela, I fell in love with the place - the beautiful courtyard with orange trees, the hearth in the dining room, everything - just lovely! The new owner and champion of friendly service, Laila, meets every request with a smile and warm sincerity that is increasingly rare in the restaurant business today -... More

This restaurant should not be in business. Our party of five made a reservation for seven during the Christmas holiday. When we entered, there were at most, five tables of customers. The owner and manager of the restaurant took our order. She left and after a half hour, we reminded her that we ordered wine. She was on her laptop and... More

Like any Argentin place, you need to go with time. Argentine meat cooked fast tastes awful. So tell them you're willing to wait for the "fuego bajo" correctly cooked steaks. Those are FAB! But ya gotta wait with wine & empanadas to appreciate the BEAUTY of this small biz.

My girlfriend and I visited from Southern California this past month. It was our first time visiting San Miguel de Allende. We found some wonderful places to eat and not so wonderful during our week visit. It was recommended to us that we eat at an old established steak house in San Miguel. It was somewhat disappointing. It will remain... More

We came to Virundela just before the dinner rush. Laila, the owner, came over and welcomed us to the restaurant. There was a delay in the staff getting the food out to us - Laila not only apologized but she took us on a tour of the restaurant kitchen and introduced us to her head chef. The staff explained to... I was thrown away by this delightful place in San Miguel the food is the best one in town and the people and prices were just perfect. We had an amazing service and we wanted to go back every night and try it all! The owner makes amazing cocktails and she is super simpathetic, really the best place SM has... More
