A classic!

El Porvenir has been around for decades and it is serving seafood of the highest caliber... Certainly a not-to-be-missed restaurant in Tampico... Don´t forget to order "jaibas a la Frank"

This restaurant is a must if you visit Tampico. It is located in the main avenue of the city (Hidalgo) and therefore is of easy access. Inside, the place is roomy, and it is family oriented, even though the original establishment was a Cantina. As appetizer we had the cheese tortillas and Frank's style crab (jaiba a la Frank), and... My wife and I visited El Porvenir based on the recommendation of the many tripadvisor reviews and also the recommendation of the hotel receptionist. The restaurant is conveniently located across the street from the Municipal Cemetery on a busy street (Hidalgo). The building is very beautiful and the inside is equally as charming. My wife had seafood and I ate... More

Third generation owner in a "colonial" front building, which is a nice several room restaurant. The place is not pretentious, but is had the best crab we have ever encountered. "a la Frank" was the style and it comes with thin slices of cheese, like little tacos that you roll the crab in and then et all rolled up. Very,... More

I really loved this place. The food is amazing and it has a special traditional vibe. The sea food was great and they have the walls decorated with beers from around the world. The staff is very kind and helpful to make food suggestions so you try their specialties.

One of the best meals we've ever tried in Mexico. The decoration was so nice. The crab claws are delicious and the cheese tortillas are absolute great. The famous stuffed crabs make you keep eating non-stop. The shrimps are huge and have a great taste. Definitely this place will be our favorite.

My friend had been here before and insisted we walk the mile in the rain from out hotel. Worth it! Nice decor. Good service (albeit in Spanish). I had a stew of fish and shrimp; my friend had a crab dish. We shared. Both very tasty. Also, surprisingly affordable. I think the tab for two with drinks and tip was... More

Ok, it's the best anywhere (barring Japan which just isn't fair), I just was embarrassed to say that in the title. This place is waaay off the beaten path but if you're ever in the area it is an absolute must do. The crab claws are simply to die for. People that I take there still comment about the place... Both excellent. I had asked for some hot sauces and they were indeed given to me. And they were very very hot. Location -... More
