Great Sunday lunch!

We happened by the Barge on the way from Stonehenge to Marlborough one Sunday. The Sunday roast was fabulous and made four hungry travellers very happy! The staff were welcoming, helpful and made the experience one I'd happily repeat.

You decide.. We are group of researchers, and have used this Inn for refreshment, rest and entertainment into the weird and wonderful as well as serious research into the wildlife of Wiltshire since 1999. Connections are made here, conversation is a diet, so too is laughter, contemplation and artistic freedoms. Seriously engaged in the Wilshire countryside and the work of... More

This is a true gem of a country pub, quirky quaint and original serving good but basic pub food, but on a sunny day there is no place to sit by the canal and drink the beer brewed on the premises

My partner and I stayed at the barge inn campsite after I found it online. Yes the campsite is basic and the shower block is well, 'rustic', but the staff are all very friendly and welcoming. We did try and come here for a roast dinner, which we tried to book several times, unfortunately they had run out by the... More

Visited on the off-chance and the place looked really busy. However, we persevered: the campsite let us park there and we took the trouble to ask about waiting times for light lunches. We managed to find a table outside, so we could enjoy the lovely canal-sidesetting during the (pretty short, as promised) wait for our food. The men tried the... More

I'd arranged to meet a family member for lunch. Being in Devizes, I thought I would walk to The Barge for theuose of exercise. Anyway, the day was filthy wet, so I turned up bedraggled after a 7 mile walk along the canal path. Met the landlord on my way inside, who offered me the use of a shower if... More

I have a pint in The Barge from time to time, so, when it was my turn to organise a walk followed by a meal for 16 work colleagues, I thought that this venue would be ideal - and I was right. The walk round the nearby White Horse hill went well and we all then piled into the pub... More

The campsite is going through a revamp and it looks a much needed improvement. The staff are warm and friendly, the good ales list and reasonable food menu, however, make up for any unsightly building work going on. The place is very dog friendly and the mix of patrons adds to the genuine warmth and charm of the place. Have... More

Spent the weekend camping here for a birthday celebration. The campsite is basic, but very relaxed. I wouldn't bring small children unless they are used to a festival vibe. The loo block is basic, but cleaned daily & always had loo roll! Supper on Friday night in the Barge was excellent. Good food & good value - 4 mains &... More

There's so much I like about this place including the setting, the eclectic (and crazy!) mix of campers, narrowboaters and bikers, the painted ceiling in the crop circle room and even the 'anything goes' kind of attitude they try to promote. Unfortunately as with everything, they really need to be some boundaries in place as the minority spoil it for... More
