Better than expected

We stumbled across here whilst looking for somewhere else. Typical village pub with large outside area and campsite attached. Pretty basic internally and family managed. The menu is basic pub grub with some specials, food was very good of it's type and very well presented and priced. Friendly... read more

A basic but pleasant little site behind the pub. Very dog friendly. Lovely view from our tent. We had a quiet stay for 3 nights, Wed - Sat, but were glad we were leaving Saturday as it really started to fill up. There is only one ladies and one gents toilet, one wash room and one shower....perfectly adequate when the... More

I would have given this pub the 5*'s if the room had been en suite but I understand the listed status of the building will not permit such alterations. The price was right £50 B & B for 2 of us, the breakfast was full English and enormous, in fact I couldn't eat it all and on the second morning... More

We had been to the pub for Mother's Day and had been treated really well. The food was exceptional. Large portions for a decent price. So we decided to go back for a birthday meal too. Our brood consists of a lot of young picky children who were all catered for without any complaint and you are made to feel... More

Just had quick lunchtime visit to this country pub. stopped in on our way back from a job and thought that we would have drink and sample the ploughmans lunch, glad that we did as it was well worth it. The ploughmans was a very full platter, three kinds of cheese, a slice of thick cut ham, fresh bread, onions,... More

You get a lot for your money. Large meals at reasonable price, efficient service. Beautiful spot, very cheap to camp. Easy access to Avon and Kennet Canal, bicycle and walk ways. Shower hot. Landlord welcoming. Easy access to Pewsey, which is a pretty village nearby.

A quirky little pub not far from the Kennet and Avon canal. Good beer and good food. Nice place to stop for a beer whilst walking the canalside.

An all-round average experience was completely ruined by the obnoxious, rude and rather insulting Landlord. This "gentleman" should not be dealing with customers... Or with people generally as his manner would be more suited to a prison warden. My friends and I will never give is man another pence.... Customers lost!

10 of us spent the weekend there 6 B&B 4 camping. Disgusting showers and loo for the campers, where I felt dirtier after a shower than before. Ordered dinner for 8-30 were not served until after 10 despite being the only table eating, foul breakfast greasy re-heated sausages , could not get sauces until the last person was served resulting... Food was unremarkable, and the whole place is let down by the awkward, ignorant landlord who was argumentative, confrontational and sarcastic towards his customers - he managed to get under the skin of everyone at some stage who attended over a 2 day event. Don't bother with booking the outside room as it's tiny and the excellent Waddies beer is sadly... More
