Better than expected

We stumbled across here whilst looking for somewhere else. Typical village pub with large outside area and campsite attached. Pretty basic internally and family managed. The menu is basic pub grub with some specials, food was very good of it's type and very well presented and priced. Friendly... read more

Myself and a mate planned a days walking around Pewsey and wanted a place to pitch a tarp and chill in front of a small camp fire for the night. As it was mid January it was virtually impossible to find any where that would accommodate us (even though our needs are very simple!) One phone call to the owner... More

The food here is cheap generous and better than average, what's not to like? The only downside is that the food never changes, if the specials changed regularly I'd come here much more often.

Cycling from Bristol to Slough. An unexpected necessary stop over for the night and managed to set-up my solo green tent before getting dark. Had my dinner at the pub and enjoyed the yummy lamb shank. The staff was helpful, although crowded been a Friday night and it took a bit longer before my food was served. The camping ground... More

We stayed at the campsite behind the pub for a single night. The facilties are quite basic but clean and work well. The campsite was quite quiet and is close to lots of histical attractions so we could easily have stayed longer. The restaurant is fantastic, food quality was superb and the staff we welcoming. A nice selection of guest... More

We cycled with our kids to the Golden Swan for a drink and some crisps. There was dog excrement ALL over the pub's garden. When we opened the door to the snug bar, a dog slipped out. The landlord followed it out, tutting about the fact that we'd let 'the puppy' out, as if somehow we should have known! We... More

A basic but pleasant little site behind the pub. Very dog friendly. Lovely view from our tent. We had a quiet stay for 3 nights, Wed - Sat, but were glad we were leaving Saturday as it really started to fill up. There is only one ladies and one gents toilet, one wash room and one shower....perfectly adequate when the... More

I would have given this pub the 5*'s if the room had been en suite but I understand the listed status of the building will not permit such alterations. The price was right £50 B & B for 2 of us, the breakfast was full English and enormous, in fact I couldn't eat it all and on the second morning... More

We had been to the pub for Mother's Day and had been treated really well. The food was exceptional. Large portions for a decent price. So we decided to go back for a birthday meal too. Our brood consists of a lot of young picky children who were all catered for without any complaint and you are made to feel... More
