The amount of times we ate in Gieltys in two weeks is a testament to how nice it is

My husband and I are just back from a two week holiday on Achill Island. The restaurant we always eat in during all our holidays on the island is now converted into a gift shop. We had previously had breakfast in Gieltys a few times. Gieltys is a really nice establishment, spotlessly clean with a... read more

Called in here for lunch. Good chowder with lots of fish and excellent bread. Wonderful chips. Shame about the 40 minute wait and the need to remind the very pleasant staff three times of our order as there was no time scale or explanation offered for the delay. Compounded by the fact of a party of eight who came in... More

Having packed up tent in the rain were looking forward to a good breakfast. We decided to drive to the end of the island to see what we could find and came across Gieltys.Good find. Daughter had small ,Jen had full Irish and I had the big one.(or as Jen call's it "the works").We don't often go for the cooked... More

Great fish & chips. The afternoon we were there for an early dinner the place wasn't very busy but the atmosphere was fun and friendly. Our waitress was attentive and engaging.

Other reviews raved about the Fish and Chips here which caused me to go here. I found that the Cod and Chips was good but not fantastic. At over 15 euros for Fish and Chips it pricey so one expects a very high standard which it did not make it. Staff are very pleasant and helpful. The premise is split... More

Stopped in a couple of times before, perhaps because it's the most western pub in Europe. We were attracted to return in the evening due to the generous offer of a free pickup and drop off by the genial host Alan. We spent two fantastic evenings with great food, drink and music. You could say they have great staff but... More

Might sound like I'm raving here - I am! The fish n chips was the best in years. Fish piece was HUGE taking up the better part of half the plate and in crispy tasty batter. Chips were equally as good, so tasty also. Would highly recommend as not your average fish n chips.

What a great pub! Good food, great pint, brilliant staff, free shuttle bus to and from, and when the music session started, they magiced a guitar out of nowhere so I could join in - you don't get that kind of friendly service very often! We where in Achill for a week with 6 other family groups, and Gielty's quickly... More

Alan & staff are very welcoming and friendly. Food is superb. The chowder is by far the nicest on the Island and is definitely worth the visit to Gielty's to try it. Thank you Alan for the glasses. Hope to be back soon.
