STILL the best local pub!

My wife and I had dinner here last Saturday evening (11th) and as usual, the food was excellent. It was a special evening for us as it was a belated Valentine's meal due to me having been unwell this year. Another lovely meal with friends who are quite particular about their food. We all had fish which was very tasty and well presented. The staff were friendly and attentive. Well worth a visit.

We were meeting a friend and all travelling some distance so booked. This was just as well as even midweek it was very busy. Food and service were very good, with some nice specials for our varied tastes. Also good to see that although very much a food led pub, bar was also still popular.

Visited with my family as an unplanned evening out. My wife had the fish and chips which was probably the best of the three of us. At least the fish had some flavour. My son had the glazed pork which boasted so much in the menu but had little flavour on the plate and my lamb shank was okay, but... More

We are obviously disappointed that someone has left our Pub not happy with their experience. Additionally when words are used that we have never heard said about us in almost 9 years we could get deflated and wonder what on earth happened and why did the customer not express their dissatisfaction to us on the evening in question - albeit... Four of us dined here on a Friday evening at 7.30. The place was packed so it was a good job that we had booked. A lively atmosphere although a bit noisy, the food proved to be excellent, and tasty too. If you want a nice meal and are torn between this and the nearby Belgian Arms you will not... More

This is a great place to eat. The menu has a great choice and everything we had was excellent. Great service as well, and a really nice atmosphere. I like a traditional country pub style and this fits the bill perfectly.

Visited 3 times, first experience we couldn't fault, second experience was even better, but third time unlucky, the standard of food, portion size and attention to detail had gone. The pub was full on our third visit,so perhaps the standards slip a bit when under pressure, which is a shame as consistency is critical for return visits. The Sunday roast... More

We have eaten twice before the George, both times in large groups. The service & food were excellent on those occasions. However, when 4 of us booked for a meal on Saturday evening, although the service was good, I'm afraid to say the food was poor. The starters were most enjoyable, but the main courses were a disappointment. My battered... More

Nice to hear that previous two experiences were very good but not stated on tripadvisor?. Goes to show that all negatives trump positives. Strange and quite sad that we wont get a fourth chance. More

The food is always very good here, the only thing I would say is that it lacks a little atmosphere. For a country pub on the wonderful village green, it just lacks something. I've given it the benefit of the doubt and have been lunchtimes and on the evening. Perhaps have the fires lit during the day? Still great food... More
