Nice but not special

Went here with friends last weekend. The service was ok but slow - no aperitif offered at first and we waited over 30 mins for drinks. The food was nice - good quality Franco-Belgian cooking - steaks, venison and pheasant on the winter menu. I expect the gardens are nice in summer. Value was ok... read more

We had lunch midweek and the restaurant was nearly full with many retired people who seemed to be regulars. I had the rable de lievre and my wife had the 'menu du jour' which was salmon. Both were cooked well and attractively presented. As they didn't have 1/2 bottles of wine we went for the house red and house white... More

We live in the area of the restaurant and are regular customers, but there was a while we did not pay a visit. Last Friday the 4th of July, I booked for 21.00 for my wife, a friend we invited and myself. Last on the terrace for some minutes (no customers eating inside the restaurant that day), drinking our coffee,... More

We were a party of 6, arriving at 8 pm on a busy Saturday night. It took c 45 minutes to take the order of starters followed by grills. by 9.30 pm we attempted to draw the staff's attention to the delay, but were royally fobbed off. After 10pm the main courses arrived, without the starters. There was no word... More

Third time at this restaurant and the last. We go for the open fire cooked coté a l'os for two. the meat was tough and tastless (little seasoning). Mayo and Mustard are extra and all you get is one portion of frozen fries (Macdonolds style), no salad included in the 48 €. They have the possibility to cook decent meat... More

We tried this place more since it was one of the only places open on a Tuesday for Lunch. Very nice looking restaurant. Charming! Once inside, the charming theme continued. Not so many people - about half full. 90 % of the clientele were retired folks. A few 30ish couples. Lunch of the day is a great price - 13... More

New to Lasne, we thought we would check out the place where cars line the road every night and even for lunch. It was also recommended by our landlord. We are just learning French so we were relieved to find that some of the people who work there speak English. Our hostess did not find our reservation (we had done... More

We often want to go, but better reserve well in advance. It is a typical Belgian bistrot (I am not Belgian but has been a resident for 4 years). Food is always tasty and fresh; I love the terrasse in the summer. The site is gorgeous and the staff is friendly and helpful. A great address but well in demand!

My advice - go there in summer and sit in their fabulous garden. The food is so-so but a nice place to spend a Sunday afternoon.

Just to let you know that the Maison Basse is not situated in La Hulpe in Belgium but in Lasne. We haven't been in a while because we've had very bad service there, however, we will try it again in the near future and hopefully the useless waiters will have been replaced by then. The owner was very unpleasant to... More
