Still pretty good

I've eaten here a few times and was told it had 'gone off'. I saw no real evidence of this. The menu is quite limited but the delicate balance between being a village pub and providing good food has been maintained. Dishes are imaginative, the staff attentive and the welcome warm. The menu is quite limited but the delicate balance between being a village pub and providing good food has been maintained. Dishes are imaginative, the staff attentive and the welcome warm. Pricing seems about right. On a January Tuesday they... More

Our usual local eating places were either closed on Mondays or were taking a break after Christmas/New Year so we went to The Crown on the recommendation of a friend. It was my wife's birthday, so we were hoping we had made a good choice. As it happened, we did! We booked an early meal (6pm) and certainly by 8pm... More

Have driven past this place dozens of times and now got round to trying it. Very pleasant place, friendly staff, pricey food with a limited lunchtime menu. Would like to try in the evening, hopefully more choice and better value

Turned up on a cold and wet evening in November 15, place was warm and inviting as always. We were a party of 12 so pre ordered our food as much as we could to help the chef. Unfortunately 2 of us wanted Mussels but they were unavailable on the evening due to the weather and local supplies. We sampled... More

My husband and I visited on New Years Eve for dinner. We were met with a very warm welcome and had a drink at the bar as our table wasn't quite ready. We had a really lovely table by the window and ordered the pigeon Kiev and chicken Caesar salad for starter followed by the lobster and steak burger. It... More

Visited for lunch and wanted a light bite. Firstly was warmly welcomed and shown a seat, the place being quite busy. Not that many options available, although it was the Bank Holiday Monday after the Christmas weekend. Any way my wife had a beef sandwich and I had a croque monsieur and a side order of chips. Very small portion... More

Having plummeted to the depths of poor food and service it seems the new management and kitchen team are dragging The Crown back into the world of respectable local hostelries. The main area could still benefit from a few softening touches to improve the lack lustre atmosphere. However, the mostly new service team are keen, friendly & efficient and the... More

The reputation of The Crown had gone down of late and we'd not been for some time, however, having found out that it's under new management (for over a year - shows how out-of-touch we were!) we thought we'd give it a try. Our waitress was friendly and efficient, as was the assistant manager with whom we had quite a... More

Visited on Sunday November the 29th, first impressions were excellent as the decor and welcome from the staff was spot on. I opted for the San Miguel (3) and had the Crown Burger to eat. The Burger was one of the best in England Ive had. Some lovely touches such as the hand cut chips, good quality beef and the... More
