Still the best grilled fish in town!

We ate here first about 10 years ago, and were so happy to experience this local institution again. The escabeche alone is worth a visit here! But beware of the chilies...! We arrived late on a Friday into Tulum. After finally settling in to the hotel we were starving... And had read good things about Don Cafeto. The guacamole, chips, salsa (yep! It is hot!) and pickled veg was great to start. There was music playing, and everywhere we looked, the food looked delicious. The place is simple, casual. But the... More

Absolutely loved the chilaquiles here. Coffee was great as was the local green drink (chaya?). Service was lovely. Many locals were eating here- a good sign. Skip the mediocre places along the beach and make the trip into town!

On two trips to Tulum we've made Don Cafeto a regular stop for lunch. The first trip we ate here every day. From the bowl of complimentary escabeche, the fresh chips and pico de gallo, to the huge lemonade iced drinks and ample Mexican food menu , this is a great place. The mole and fish dishes were my favorites.... More

I asked a Mexican working in our hotel where his Favorite resto was. This was 1 of the 2 he mentioned. And we went for breakfast. We had the Mayan and Aztec breakfast and OMG! It was one of our best Mexican breakfasts. They serve pickled veggies first and my husband loved them. they have huge servings and it was... More

We were fortunate to come upon this restaurant on our first night in Tulum and returned most nights during the vacation. The live music is a great treat. We adored the authentic Mexican specialties of Chicken Mole and Chile Relenos. Their fish dishes are great as is the soup Aztek. Everyone is very friendly and service is excellent even on... More

the place is always crowded, even more so when they have live music at night. we were lucky to get a table on our 2nd night in tulum and chose the camarónes al ajo (delicious) and enchiladas verdes (they made vegetarian ones for me filled with vegetables instead of chicken; but they were only average). the service was good but... I visited this restaurant after having been advised by a local that it was the best place around to eat. I'm sure he was right because I loved what I had. The atmosphere is very casual, but the service is great. For my meal, I didn't get a drink, it cost me 100 pesos, tip in. So this place is... More

We went here 3 times, twice for their tuna salad sandwiches and for supper once. Amazing food for great value. We had shrimp/chicken skewers for supper- awesome.
