We had a great dinner here. We lucked out without making reservations. We had a nice complimentary appetizer board---our first time eating grasshoppers (crunchy, not too overwhelming flavor). The tamarind margarita was outstanding. We really enjoyed the emphasis on serving local foods and wines. The only drawback was the overwhelming smell of incense burning in the veranda, which competed with... More

Somehow Chef Claudia Perez manages to make food that is earthy yet ephemeral, traditional yet surprising, and nuanced but bold. In short, this lady can cook. The appetizer board that comes complements of the house is fantastic: bite sized empanadas that may be the best I have had, a simple bean and cheese torta, very well done seeded whole grain... More

This is a fabulous small restaurant, unlike the predictable faire on Tulum main street. We had Chili en Nogada, prawns and fresh Huilacoche (black corn fungus), grasshoppers, and tamarind margaritas. Obviously, different to trad TexMex. For the security conscious, the only risks of the dark backstreet were avoiding roadworks and hitting one's head on the street sign (which I did).... More

We had a special prix fixe meal on Christmas Eve. We started with a delicious traditional nonalcoholic punch and an appetizer plate that was very imaginative and interesting. Loved the salad. My husband had turkey mole, which we'd heard was among the best in Mexico; I had a less interesting pork dish. A glass of good wine came with the... More

I cannot say enough about our dinner at Cetli. My boyfriend and I had our New Years Eve dinner there and I will remember it for always. Set in a beautiful courtyard on a quiet street, the chef owner cooks on the other side of a window. The meal started with an offering of chapulines with orange, fresh cheese with... More

Visited in March. Is a bit hard to find, and for an hour, we were the only customers in the place. It's a couple blocks off Tulum Ave. Service was fabulous, and the food was great, but be prepared to be patient... the dinner may take over two hours from arrival to departure.

Cetli, in Tulum, Mexico, is a chef-owned diamond in the rough restaurant. We ate at several good cafes throughout our week in Tulum and were so impressed and surprised to find Cetli. She (Cetli) single-handedly in her small visible kitchen turned out an array of perfectly prepared dishes with complex and differing sauces for each appetizer and entree. Her homemade... More

Until we were suduced by the exceptional culinary delights prepared by our chef whose name eludes me. My apologies to the beautiful woman in the cocina for not remembering. Quietly spaced tables provided an intimate atmosphere. Reserving a table reduced the volume of diners who may encroach upon the experience. We were three, ordering three entres, making certain we covered... More
