I highly recommend El Tabano for dinner. My wife and I stayed in Tulum for 1 week and we were trying to keep a balance between paying the high prices of eating on the beach vs. having to drive into town to save a buck. Out of all of the Tulum beach restaurants, El Tabano was our favorite. They had... more

The best food and service, for an excellent price...should be number 1!!! We stayed at the Posada Margherita up the street and had already tried everything on the expensive menu - which never changes. I was lazy from all the sun and didn't want to find a place to eat, but didn't want to eat at PS again. Thank goodness... more

What a surprise--this place is great! All kinds of options, every one of them was good. We had tomato and goat cheese salad, grouper and papaya ceviche, fish cooked in beer (amazing), pork ribs with a spicy and citrusy sauce, and a chile relleno that was outstanding. It gets crowded which makes for stressed service, but they servers are really... more

and came back on our last night in Tulum. When I travel I like variety; I want to try different places, but made an exception for El Tabano. The food was wonderfully flavourful and refined. The place is very informal and relaxing. I don't remember the names of the dishes we had, but I remember the cevice being delicious; also... more

El Tabano is a must eat if you are visiting Tulum! Unlike the many hotel restaurants that streatch along beach road El Tabano is really quaint and feels authentic. From the simple chalk board menu, to the two amazing female chefs behind the counter, it is an experience that can't be beat. Sit back, relax and enjoy! more

We loved this place! We went twice and sadly never even got to the main courses. The first time we wanted a snack and had the most delicious crepes, hand prepared in the outdoor kitchen under the restaurant's palapa. It was so good we went back again for dinner and tried the stuffed jalepenos, a recipe passed down from the... more

Dining at El Tabano is a must if you're near Tulum. It is located on the jungle side of the beach road. We were there for lunch in July. It is a delighful, quirky, jungle atmosphere with amazing food and a low key sophistication. The menu is in Spainish on a large chalkboard. My husband and I are limited with... more

My husband and I spent two weeks in Tulum for our wedding in April 2009. El Tabano was by far our favorite restaurant in Tulum. We ate breakfast and dinner there 7-8 times in the two weeks we were there. The food is lovingly prepared and the setting is intimate with artistic touches like vintage furniture, reclaimed wood sculptures (like... more

My husband & I went to El Tabano because of TripAdvisor Reviews. We had a terrible experience. We each ordered an appetizer and entree. To make a long story short after a LONG hour wait I received my entree and my husband received his appetizer. They forgot about my husband's entree altogether and about twenty minutes later my appetizer was... more

El Tablano was recommended by the owner of our hotel. Although it is not on the beach -side of the road, it didn't matter The set-up was really cute and intimate. We sat outside under the stars and watched as the two ladies cooked our meal. We really felt like we were having a home-cooked, authentic spanish meal. I had... more
