We stayed at the Grand Mayan went to Playa almost every day. During our last visit I traveled with someone that is not really willing to eat at a taco stand let alone a locals joint. I have to tell you that this was one of the best places that we have found in Playa. The food is priced very... more

I don't know what some people expect. If you want taco bell then go to taco bell. This place serves excellent local food at a very reasonable price. The quantity and quality of food is well above the price paid. The service is friendly. The waiter only had one thing to say in english. That was he pointed at a... more

We got to El fogon after a recommendation when we were looking for 'real' mexican food. El fogon is a taco place located on 30th just a bit outside of the centre, walking towards the highway. The food's much cheaper then at other places and its really clean. The waiters didn't speak (much) english but were very service minded and... more

It's places like this that make me love hole-in-the-wall restaurants. Everyhting that we ate was awesome and when you finished the margarita you knew you'd had a drink! I took the left overs with us somehow hoping that I'd have room to eat them before we left for home at 3AM. If we had found this place sooner we'd definitely... more

This is a typical local restaurant that makes simple and delicious food at any time of the day and night... yes, they're open till 6 am! Their menu has a big selection, and... more

el fogon is very nice. you can always go there, also in the nights. you get your food quick and for the best (lowest) price. but if you live in playa or stay for longer time it will turn to a fast food thing... like mc donald's in europe. and sometimes you can also feel bad afterwards.. (that happened to... more

Amazing little place with really fantastic food. Great to visit if you're looking for a bit of "real" Mexican cuisine rather than the junk served on the 5th Av. A whole meal with about 6 bottles of beer cost us about £15. Portions are amazingly generous - our shredded beef for the tortillas looked like half a cow on a... more

We thoroughly enjoyed the two meals we ate here. We especially enjoyed the chicken quesadillas and the house special plate. The atmosphere was pleasant, and it was fun to watch the local street traffic. This is the restaurant on 30th and Calle 6 near Walmart. (When you stand outside the front door of Walmart, it is on the street to... more

Fogon serves great authentic Mexican food, but it's dirty, noisy and a little bit too crowded. Las Brasitas is a competitor to Fogon, with better service, less crowd and much much cleaner. It's located on Av Constituyentes between Av 30 and 35. more
