Authentic! Gringos don't hesitate!

We ate here last night based on 2 recommendations from locals. We have two older teen boys and we don't speak any workable Spanish. The food was excellent but be prepared - this is an open air restaurant and the oven added considerably to the heat inside. No English menu but the waiter was very... read more

We found this place right here on TripAdvisor and it was well worth trekking to find. Walk away from the beach and all the shops and overpriced restaurants on La Quinta Avenida, go past two other less crowded restaurants with guys out front trying to pull you in and step up to El Fogon, inconspicuously located across the street from... This is definitely a local place that has good food but not meant for a nice leisurely night out. The place is too hot, crowded, the waiters were understandably busy and there were people lined up outside waiting. We sweated, drank our warm beers and margaritas and ate as quickly as we could.

This was definitely one of the better eateries in the 5th ave area. It's a little warm inside the restaurant, but it is Mexico. The wait staff are pleasant but in a bit of a rush to get an order in. I'm not a huge fan of the cheese that they use but I visited this restaurant more than once... More

Super authentic Mexican food. We were recommended this place and decided to give it a go. We were so pleased we did. The place is packed with queues down the road, food is amazing and great value. Staff were amazing they explained the food, culture and helped us in ordering. If you want somewhere away from the razzamatazz of the... More

Stumbled into this place looking for a restaurant that was no longer around. There were a few places to pick from and just looking into the place and seeing how busy plus all the locals sold it to our group of 6. Shortly after we were seated, a line was forming waiting. This was the only place in Playa we... More

Decided to go to El Fogon because we were looking for a more authentic mexican lunch that what is served in resorts. Was amazed by the number of locals sitting there when we arrived as well as the spanish only menu and mostly spanish with enough english to get by service. Best tacos I've had in my life! We ordered... More

Tacos and meats to die for, cheap prices and quality meats. Love the crazy taco it is unreal. Street food at its best, never a bad meal. Ate here 3 times in a week.

The food and service at El Fogo was A1. I forgot the name of the dish I had, but I would get it again in a heartbeat. The atmosphere of the restaurant was very pleasant. The guacamole was also some of the best that I have ever tasted!
