We were searching for a place for dinner on the 5th Avenue when we stopped by to check this restaurant's menu out. Like many other restaurants, there was a guy standing outside trying to convince you to go inside by telling you about the "specials" and offering free drinks. We gave in and decided on this restaurant. The server (i... More

We all ordered the same chicken dish and several of us commented it didn't taste quite right. Our entire party of 6 were all extremely ill. Two of the women in our party had to get a docter to visit the hotel, they were so ill they couldn't go to the hospital. Most of our party didn't eat for three... More

Nothing about this restaurant made it 4.5 stars. The prices were very high! We had grilled chicken it had no flavor, no seasoning. The Tacos were bland as well and the tortillas we stale. My son had shrimp and they were way over cooked. We had so many good experiences eating this trip El Carnicero was not one of them!

Having lived in Playa del Carmen over 3 years I have gotten used to the restaurant scene and have come to expect good and bad experiences from 5th Avenue to the Ejidol. While I like to boast that the majority of experiences are good in Playa, I felt an obligation to write an honest-to-goodness, *negative* review concerning El Carnicero. To... More

Good evening to begin with there is no restaurant that returns the money when the pot is something wrong, but he is sent back you do it cook a little bit more or you change it directly, at least this is our policy and that of all the restaurants in the world if something is wrong you do this and... We landed at " El Canicerco" by accident the first time two years ago when we first went to Playa Del Carmen. Located on 5th Avenue, it is very small and unassuming, but they had a great special family style, so we went there with our son and were so happy we frequented it often. Recently we went there with... More

Friends took us here as we wanted meat. Well, we got meat. We ordered the arrachera which serves 3-4 people and includes 6 beers. The arrachera was delicious. We were a little too warm but most places on 5th Ave. are street front and don't have a/c. Some in our party ordered the clam pasta and they really liked it.... More

My husband and I had dinner here on June 7th. The staff was nice and the sevice was quick. The location on 5th is great for people watching! Unfortunately, the guacamole and "cheese with something else" (like queso flameado) tasted terrible and the flour tortilla's tasted store bought. What a disappointment. :(

My boyfriend and I stayed in Riviera Maya and visited Playa Del Carmen for an evening because we were going to Coco Bongos - Went to this restaurant before our night in Coco Bongos and it was fantastic - I had Surf n Turf which was delicious and my boyfriend had the T-Bone Steak with all the trimmings - Both... Had dinner here. Shrimp was very good!! The rest of the meal was just so so. The vegetables where especially pathetic, streamed frozen broccoli...... Sad, yellow and soggy. The free glass of wine with the special was nice. All in all, probably about average for the PDC 5th ave strip.

We have eaten here a few times over the past 3 years with each time being a different experience. Be sure that the meat they show you is the one that is going on the grill as sometimes their cuts can contain more fat that needed. The service is good as well as the prices.
