BEST. SEAFOOD. EVER.

El Pirata is a local, hole-in-the-wall type of establishment. It's small and mismatched, they only accept cash, and their menus are all in Spanish. This is a no frills, no bells and whistles type of place, and it's absolutely amazing. They offer a wide variety of fresh seafood dishes and even... read more

We were the only gringos in the place so we knew it had to be good. The mixed seafood cocktail was delicious, just beware that some of its raw. The garlic fish was amazing as well!

During my trip to PDC we hunted this place down to try it out. Although it was a hike from the main drag section of 5th Ave, it was definitely worth it. You can order from the menu, but the locals know to visit the counter of the fish market located right next door and request to have the restaurant... More

I almost hesitate to post a review about El Pirata.. I don't want to show up there next winter only to be waiting in a hour lineup! This place is amazing, fresh fish market on 1 side, other side is a restaurant. You can pick from the menu, or have a look at the fish market and have it cooked... More

Great seafood ceviche, worth queuing in the sun to get a table! I think they close at 5pm or at least that's what I was told. So really recommend trying it for lunch.

This is a little local spot with mostly locals--no English spoken here! We had about a 15 minute wait, arriving around 1p.m. We wanted fried fish and ordered it from the waiter along with some beer. After waiting awhile, another guest told us that for fried fish you had to go to the window and order and pick out your... More

Seafood doesn't get any fresher than here at El Pirata (The Pirate)! Portions are very generous whether you order their signature fried whole fish, their excellent ceviche and even the shrimp cocktail.

This is the best of local restaurants you can find! Friendly staff. Go to the cooler to pick your fresh fish. The grilled snapper was brought to the table and was perfectly done with the skin crispy and the flesh moist and yummy. Be prepared to wait to be seated but any wait well worth it.

We came here following the locals' advice and some forum posts telling they cook the best fish in Playa without typical resort hype and main street overpricing. The place overall is quite nice, with lots of locals' families dining here. Maybe not shining clean like a brand restaurant, but quite on the par with other places around. Sure they allow... More
