This was recommended by our Dive Master for a great lunch. He was right the shrimp were huge, portions great, service was fun, not the fanciest place but what great food.

This is the first time that I've ever had to wait for a table in Playa, which says something about the food. The restaurant is right next door to a fish market, so you choose your fish in the market and they cook it for you to eat in the restaurant. We had a whole red snapper and shrimp, and... More

Don't get me wrong, the food here is good. My shrimp ceviche was excellent, and my husband's large shrimp diablo was tasty (though he didn't expect or enjoy the shells they were served in). But the service was lacking. You'd think on a not-very-busy night they'd be pleased to serve any customers, but although there were plenty of staff working,... More

What isn't there to love about El Pirata. Located on Calle 40, just off Ave 5/10 - it's perfect for some authentic Mexican food at a decent price. The restaurant has a very relaxed atmosphere, lots of locals eat here, so enjoy the experience. Staff are friendly and food is very tasty. The large ceviche is perfect for two people... More

A small place, but tables turn quickly. You step in to the fish market next door, select your fish, weigh it up, pay for it and sit down next door. They bring it to you with rice, beans and veggies. The beer is cold, servers are attentive, but in a rush all the time. Great tastes and a great experience.

I look forward each year to returning to Puerto Morelos and eating a steak at El Pirata. The service isn't super fast but hey who is in a hurry? The steak is so "soft" and cooked to perfection exactly as you ordered it/ The cook has been there for years and enjoys preparing and presenting your food.

Our apartment was within eyeshot of this place and I was sold the moment I saw it - Mexican families lined up outside waiting for a table with fantastic local musicians serenading those in line. Ordered a couple of massive shrimp and conch cocktails, pescado empanizado (HUGE serving), camarones al mojo de ajo and empanadas de cazon. Everything was excellent... More

Amazing, delicious, fresh seafood..at incredible prices. The atmosphere is very nice and, more importantly, not touristic (in fact the restaurant is located in a garage!!)!!!!! Highly recommend...especially the fish soup (one of the best I've ever tasted!!!)!!

This little local seafood spot has the best, freshest seafood I've had anywhere really, and that includes the pricey restaurants. Nothing fancy. You just go next door and pick out your fish. They fry it up and bring it out to your table with your sides and it is so good you want to go back every day. You may... More

Came here three days in a row, ceviche mixto, shrimp cocktails, guacamole, and large whole friend fish that we picked out next door. This place has the freshest seafood in Playa, according to two locals we met, whom told us "do not miss El Pirata" "best seafood in Playa" and "there aren't many good restaurants in Playa, go there". The... More
