Description: The grouper with garlic and butter for 90 pesos can't be beat anywhere. Service was good, portions are huge , drinks are large and excellent, and the location is right on the beach (feet in the sand if you choose). A great value.

Oh yes! Fresh is the order here on one of Playas oldest restaurants, right on the perfect beach. Here fishermen bring very early catches straight to the kitchen, where great Mexican favs are whipped up just for us,and believe me,it's that darn good! Fresh fresh fresh!!

One of the few "true" Mexican restaurants still located by the beach of Playa del Carmen. It mainly serves fish in all its variations: the quality is overall very good, but you need to accept some compromises, such as sitting on plastic chair, poor illumination and closing time at 9pm.

We heard about this place from a US expat of sixteen years. Very accessible, just walk down Calle 2 and you can't miss it on the left at the beach. We paid 60 pesos a meal, which was sizeable and delicious. Make sure to show up before 8pm because they close up pretty early. Definitely a world away from Quinta,... More

During my first visit to Playa del Carmen with a group of friends and family back in the mid 1980's we "stumbled" into this little beach bar/restaurant and had one of the best afternoons ever spent eating and drinking oceanfront right on the sand under the palm trees. For 30 years I have told the story to friends and all... More

At the end of Calle 2, right on the beach, Tarraya is THE original restaurant and bar on the beach in Playa. It serves mostly fish and seafood simply prepared in traditional styles. The fish is fresh, well prepared and inexpensive (about $5 US for the smaller portion). On a Sunday afternoon, we were the only non-Mexicans in this bustling... More

This is our favorite place to eat in Playa. Toes in the sand and cheap fresh seafood and drinks. The views are awesome. We always meet up with friends that live in Playa at La Tarraya. They close at 9 pm, and they will hurry you to leave, so go early! Can't wait to go back in November!

Someone suggested this place and we tried it because it was on the beach. My husband had the Ceviche, which he loved and I don't even recall what I had. The service was incredibly slow and our waiter seemed like he was having a very bad day. I can't say that it's somewhere we would go back to.

This place is old school! Fresh ceviche, fish tikinxic, chicken mole, etc. Outstanding Mexican food, usual selection of beer and drinks. Seating on the beach, patio, or inside. We sat on the beach but closer to the restaurant. Great service, great food, good value. APPX price Small ceviche + 1 entree + 1 beer = 140 pesos ($12 USD or... More
