The original chocolate was made in Mesoamerica with water and honey. On this place you can taste that original chocolate from prehispanic times. Take it with a muffin or some sweet bread but dont add sugar. Excelent place!!!

For a good coffee, visit Ah Cacao! Not like coffee? Try the hot coco, you can't find better in town. It's just a pitty that it got that popular that the waiters are that busy that sometimes it takes a while before you're order is being taken or that your order is brought at your table.

My daughter and I have hot chocolate all over Spain and Mexico. We love the thick, deep dark chocolate in the local hot chocolates and thought that is what we were getting at Ah Cacao. We had the traditional hot chocolate - which was pleasant but thin and lacking in chocolate flavor. We tried the Maya hot chocolate and it... More

I do wish we had these in the USA. We ordered 2 iced lattes and 2 large bottles of water for under $10 USD. The service was quick and friendly. Loved looking around the cafe while our coffees were being made. Tasted so amazing we didn't even need sugar or sweetener.

My friends and I stayed in Playa del Carmen in late Nov- early Dec and regularly came to Ah Cacao, we found it to be a great place to relax, especially because the staff treated us so well! The drinks were great quality and we were very impressed with the latte art, a really nice touch! The food and drinks... More

I had the traditional hot chocolate (with cinnamon) and a brownie, both of which were very good. The brownie was fairly small by American standards but it was also a good value at around 25 pesos. The carrot cake was also pretty good (not as sweet as you might expect) but not a great value. Most drinks were a little... More

After discovering Espresso au Cocao, I made my daily treck to Ah Cacao every day. The espresso with chocolate is so good I never though to try any of there other coffee products. I did try there brownie, croissant and their chocolate croissant. They were ok but nothing past acceptable, as I am use to so much better.

Wonderful coffee to be had at any one of the three branches of this chain I saw scattered through Playa del Carmen. Their Mayan coffee is some of the very best I have tasted. This is probably the best take away coffee in town so please do yourself a favour and consider this local business over going to Starbucks. I... More

Their pastel de herote (corn cake) is sooooo delicious, mouth melting, not too sweet. perfect for us. I tried cheese cake this time and it was also good. On the day we are leaving we bought them to go and ate in the airplane...!

There are 3 Ah Cacao Chocolate Cafe on 5th Avenida! They all have the same menu. Try the "sipping chocolate", which is melted chocolate served on a small cup. Decadent? Yes, for sure! I haven't had their pastries yet. My favorite is the Mayan coffee. Of course, I buy their chocolate bars to bring home in Virginia.
