La Bodeguita del Medio was founded in Cuba in the 1940s as a corner store owned by Angel Martinez. The store became a meeting place for local artists who enjoyed getting together for an afternoon 'Mojito'. The place has preserved the ambiance of the romantic Carribean lifestyle that flourished with Havana. Today the Bodeguita del Medio is famous world wide for Salsa music, fine cigars, its original Mojitos and having guests write their thoughts and comments on the walls of the restaurant.

Great service, bad experience

We went last week to this cuban place, the food was excellent and the mojitos are really good. The service give us a reason to return, Paulo or Paolo is so fun and he made my kids this crazy and cool virgin mojitos that they love, everything went find, until a photographer came into our table and... read more

You can seat on a table on at the bar. The live band playing, nice people around, very good mojitos. The best is that you also could dance there! The food is reasonable price. If you go to Playa, do not miss it.

Tasty, high quality, abundant and reasonably priced food. I had tried it in Habana in 2001. I was surprised to see the restaurant in Playa del Carmen. We liked it and return the following day. We like the carpaccio and the shrimps.

My friends in Playa del Carmen brought me here for drinks and salsa dancing. We had so much fun! The atmosphere was so cool and the band that night was fantastic... I regret not purchasing their CD to take home with me. If I ever get a chance to go back to Mexico, this place will be on my revisit... More

We had a sea food for two. There were some strange combinations (shrimp with bacon), but it worked! In the end we were happy with what we got!

I've been wondering how this place is for years so I thought we'd give it a try. While it's true the Mojitos are tasty I was not overly impressed. I felt the portion size is small for the amount we paid. The wait staff is friendly, the atmosphere is good.

The food tasted very good. We ordered a combination plate based on it being the house special (and it came with two mojitos). It was very tasty. The portions were small for 2 people sharing but we left satisfied but not stuffed. The cubed pork was very good as was the beef.

I ate at this restaurant tonight and went for the atmosphere and live music as well as the mojito. Firstly, the venue is nice and the music is great as is the mojito. The food itself is fine, nothing special kind of plain really. The problem I have with the place is the obvious attempts to fleece tourists. I ordered... More

We have been here every year for the past four years and have always had a good time. We try to get there around 6 before the place fills up. Sit outside so you can watch the vacationers strolling down 5th ave. Order the Pollo Cubano, the house specialty and consistently the best meal we have all week. Chicken in... More
