Description: La Bodeguita del Medio was founded in Cuba in the 1940s as a corner store...
La Bodeguita del Medio was founded in Cuba in the 1940s as a corner store owned by Angel Martinez. The store became a meeting place for local artists who enjoyed getting together for an afternoon 'Mojito'. The place has preserved the ambiance of the romantic Carribean lifestyle that flourished with Havana. Today the Bodeguita del Medio is famous world wide for Salsa music, fine cigars, its original Mojitos and having guests write their thoughts and comments on the walls of the restaurant.

Didn't have a good dining experience here, but the music and drinks were fantastic. I'd recommend for the restaurant to provide customer service training to the staff and I'm sure the incident that happened with us could be avoided.

This was our first stop after arriving in Playa and checking in. Unfortunately, the food was mediocre (this was during lunchtime), and worse, the change we received from paying the bill was about 200 pesos short. Unfortunately, we didn't notice this until after we left, and although it's a small amount, it left us with a bad feeling about the... More

I eat here every time I vacation in Playa del Carmen. Their mojitos are really good and the food is always tasty. I like eating cuisines from different countries. It was like taking a trip to Cuba. We sat outside and enjoyed people watching. There was dance lessons going on and I had fun learning the dances.

My wife and I strolled down 5th Avenue and came upon this Cuban restaurant on a very quiet Monday evening. We both enjoyed their chicken, white rice, black beans, and plantains. The night we were there, it was very quiet (no live music and not many patrons). The food & drinks were plentiful and inexpensive.

The food was poor and pricey, the music extremely loud if you wish to have a conversation and the dancing space is ridiculous... i don´t know why they moved from they´re old location which at least had a proper dancing place. Won´t come back soon...

Went here on the recommendation of others in our group to Playa. Sure glad we listened. The mojitos were delicious. The ceviche was outstanding! Loved the black beans and the service was great. Will definitely be back on our next trip!

We ate here our first night at Playa del Carmen when we were already a bit tired of Mexican food. We wanted something different and we got an amazing simple meal in a fun environment. There was live music playing and the server was very upbeat and attentive. We had Ropa Vieja and Vaca frita, two relatively simple Cuban dishes.... More

I was surprised to find one Bodeguita del Medio out from Havana. I was told this is their branch, which, by the quality of the Mojito I got (in fact I´ve got 3), it really is. Cheers.
