Really good food in a charming setting overlooking an interior courtyard with a carriage. I had three medallions of beef with different sauces on each – very good. My sweet of crystalized sweet potato was maybe a bridge too far. Good wine list but remember that there is a California in Mexico and that’s the one the Cab Sav comes... More

Its pretty overrated. Must be in any guidebook. Lots of tourists at any gime waiting to get a table. But I couldnt say, that the food I got in some Yucatan village was worse than here. The place is overcrowded and well its more loke a cantine for the tour groups.

In Merida attending a wedding and ate in La Chaya Maya with a couple of friends. They were American and hat eaten Mexican food before, but myself from Scotland had never eaten Mexican before, so I did not know where to start. I opted for the Turkey sandwich and I was not disappointed ! I hate onions but this sandwich... More

Always seems to be busy at any time of day. Opens at 13.00 hours. A wonderful atmosphere is derived from this beautiful colonial building with courtyard and traditional decor. Locals eat here as well as tourists and it is an excellent place to start your Yucatan culinary experience and not that expensive. A two course meal is around £20 with... More

In Merida's downtown is probably the best restaurant; the food (regional) is excellent, good prices and the service is very good.

This is probably your best option to try Yucatan's gastronomy, very good prices and high quality dishes, but there is one of them (there are 2 in downtown) which is located in an old colonial house, the prices and dishes are the same , but the place is far better than the first and original one, try this.

We ate at La Chaya twice. The food is only averagely good - well cooked but uninspired and relatively bland, It has some redeeming features: the extensive Yucatecan menu; central location; decent service; good cleanliness; very reasonable prices; excellent hand-made tortillas. Hence coming back there twice! But that was a result of heat/laziness and poor planning - while not a... More

We visited La Chaya Maya on a few occasions, as their menu is so varied and one wants to try everything on offer. The food is fresh, relevant to the Yucatan culture and the portions are reasonable, as are the prices. One of our visits was during an evening in which they had lost power, so it was nice to... More
