Came here with my husband following a recommendation. There were people queuing at the door it is obviously very popular. Unfortunately I have no idea why. Our food was distinctly average in flavour and the following day both of us had upset stomachs we can only assume from eating here. I would not go back. There are much better restaurants... More

The staff at Casa de Montejo recommended La Chaya for lunch and we went back twice. Delicious yucatecan specialties like Pollo and Cochinita Pibil. Seemed to be super popular with locals and tourists alike.

We originally went here one evening and there were too many gringos so we ventured back on a Sunday morning. We were the only non-Mexicans there. The place was packed but the staff was very efficient in getting patrons served and not feeling rushed. We had the chilaquiles which were wonderful. Plenty to eat. My husband had the traditional breakfast... More

This is a great little place with excellent food. It was all locals when we were there in the afternoon. The food was excellent and extremely inexpensive. I would highly recommend this restaurant. Don't confuse it with Chaya Maya. This is a great small local restaurant.

The best compliments for authentic food are always from local people. We went with a Yucatecan friend who grew up with a father who cooked and sold authentic food. She knows the taste it was supposed to have and she absolutely loved it and so did we. A testament is there it always seems full. The service for us was... More

We had a couple of meals at La Chaya during our short stay in Merida. Restaurant was always busy with a mix of locals and tourists. Food was delicious. It was interesting to try more traditional food and drinks from the local area. Service was friendly, helpful and efficient. Definitely recommend!

Looking for local food ... This is a great place to dine!!!! Busy restaurant which was full of locals, ex-pats and tourists!!! I ordered the Tradition Yucateca which included several different items. Everything was fresh and we could watch the chefs in action w/ the open kitchen concept. Hope to go back and try another dish.

If you come down to Mérida this is a MUST DO. Try the panuchos, salbutes and poc chuc. The waiter will explain what is what. Not expensive, well served and with an amazing flavour. Cuando vengas para Mérida tienes que probar este restaurante. Uno de los mejores de comida yucateca. Bueno y barato. No dejes de comer el Queso Relleno!

We spent one evening in Merida and were looking for a good local restaurant. We passed by this restaurant by total chance and thought it looked interesting and packed with locals. We went in and were totally glad we did : good mexican food with good quantities. The service is very good, and the tortillas are freshly made in front... More
