Good location, poor food

Great location to eat outdoors on a plaza, but basic menu and food pretty poor - our fajitas arrived in minutes, preparation more akin to a street-side snack bar than restaurant. Go elsewhere for your evening meal, such as the restaurant at Hotel Casa Lucia

Lots of bad reviews here for this place, but I had the best Cochinita Pibil (Mayan pork dish) I've ever had at Contreras. Twice in 3 days, it was so good. The bill for two meals, with margaritas, was about $30. I was happy. Plus, eating outside and people watching on a Saturday night was an added bonus. I've posted... More

We went here one night and ordered some drinks and food. The prices were very high for Merida, but we thought we would splurge. Unfortunately, the food quality was very low and the drinks were watered-down. And the prices were outrageous for the quality and amount of food given.

I recently ate at Cafe Peon Contreras. We had been sitting in the park nearby, and decided to eat there since we were enjoying the live music that was playing. The location is lovely, but that's about it. My fettuccine bolognese wasn't hot and tasted salty. But I was otherwise enjoying myself, so I didn't say anything. I'm guessing that... More

We were hungry and saw this outdoor restaurant at the side of the Teatro Peon Contreras. We were seated at an outdoor table and moved because of smokers at the next table. We were placed closed to the band, they were a little loud but very good local music. We ordered our food which came quickly, well presented and the... More

There were many problems with this restaurant. My boyfriend and I were very hungry one night when an aggressive waiter tried to get us to eat at the Cafe. We were so hungry we gave in. Mistake number one. Second mistake was ordering the garlic bread. It tasted like freezer burn and did not taste fresh. We fed a little... More

This restaurant does not have great food. That doesn't mean it isn't a fantastic place....We love it here. We come here everyday when in Merida. It's a restful place, with great guacamole. We ate sandwiches, and fajitas here on one occasion. Both meals were pretty bad. We've concluded that drinks and guacamole, ambient setting, live karaoke by night, and great... More
