We decided ahead of time that this trip to Cozumel we would try to stick to local food. Los Otates was a nice treat. The waiters don't speak much English, but they will provide you with a menu in English and you can always point to what you want. We had read about the pozole, so chose that and enjoyed... More

Fantastic food, great prices, friendly staff, and open late. This is not a fancy place it is a taco stand with seating. You must have the pork and bean soup and the tacos gringas. My husband and I spend a lot of time here and have never been disappointed.

This was one of my favorate parts of our trip to Cozumel. Some friends of ours had found this restuarant on and earlier trip to Cozumel. A local man recommended it. The food was great, very authentic and affordable. We each had a burrito and two beers and split a quessadilla and had chips. The total with tip was $10... More

My husband grew up on tacos as his grandmother was Mexican and he was so delighted with this place because the tacos were like his grandmother made. No lettuce, sour cream or tomatoes like you get in the USA. These are REAL tacos according to him. We all had excellent food and the bill for 4 of us with beer... More

We had lunch here two days while we were on vacation and the food is wonderful!! The surroundings are not much to look at but the food makes up for it. The chicken burritos are big and full!! The chorizo tacos are excellent and the queso is great. Don't be scared off by the looks of this place, it is... More

My husband ordered chicken tacos I ordered chicken burrito - awesome, authentic Mexican dinner, we each had a beer and it all came to 134 peso's. (Less than 13 USD). I was very surprised to see more gringos than locals here. The service was awesome when we first arrived but as it became busier and busier the service dropped of... More

Great tacos and sauces-inexpensive. Authentic and not touristy. Definetly not a classy place, plastic chairs and tables

Very authentic taco joint which used to be all locals but now a mixture after word has spread. Very basic set up but lovely grub at great prices - 3 tacos for 27 pesos is a steal and they specialise in cow's head tacos where you can get cheek, tongue, brain and eye tacos! I went there on my own... More

Otates was a great choice for Mexican food for years. I love the posole, but I went last month and the food was scary. I'm serious, it did not look clean, well prepared, nothing....the pieces of meat were not recognizable, it was a very negative experience. I won't go back now. Sad to say.

We are really sorry for the bad experiece you had last month at Los Otates. Usually the pozole is served with a mixture of different types of pork meat and fat. This is how locals prefer their pozole. But you can specify you want it with shredded meat only and no fat by telling the waiter you want "pura carne... More
