Our first night in Cancun, we ate the "Chinese" buffet in our all inclusive hotel. It sucked. She wanted real Mexican food tonight, and El Mortero delivered. Tortilla soup was our only starter. It was served hot and perfect. I had a filet perfect rare as ordered. The sauce served on the steak was outstanding, a Demi glaze I believe.... More

This restaurant had everything you'd expect in tourist Mexican restaurant. Mariachi band? Check! (but they were actually really good). Margaritas as big as your head? Check! Standard Mexican fare with nothing too creative or spicy? Check! Not cheese laden like the typical TexMex, and you can ask for some spicy sauce too kick up the spice, but do not judge... More

If you want to have a little bit of every region and flavors of typical Mexican food, Sunday breakfast buffet is the place to be. The restaurant is bright and spacious. You don't feel enclosed. You can have a nice brunch with very tasty food and salsas. Very nice selection of typical desserts, that you can't miss!. Bring a big... More

If you sell dishes for 30 dollars in Mexico, we as customers expect a very up scale food . Let me tell you something pro bono . Please change the whole kitchen crew . You don't have to be a scientist to prepare ribeye tacos and good shrimp , but you really need to be a very bad cook to... More

Ate here this past week and love it. The Mara-chi band was added bonus to the evening. The food was great and pricing was reasonable to the location. May want to call ahead on the weekends it gets crowded.

Went for a graduation party. The food was great, the mariachi band was hilarious (got the crowd going) their margaritas were good and food was delicious. Best for families or older crowds.

We found this place my chance. We were looking for another restaurant that we could not find and saw this place so we took a chance. They had 2 large groups dinning but it did not slow down our service. The food was fantastic, fresh seafood. Live music was happening with a great singer and back up band. Would definitely... More

We went to El Mortero without having a reservation, due to the changed dinner plans. The restaurant is located right in the midst of the night-club district by Coco Bongo and Palazzo. The dining area is spacious offering a typical Mexican decor, quite reminiscent to On The Border, Chilli's and other US chain restaurants of the TexMex variety. Depending on... More

This was included in our all inclusive. You must make reservations the day of your visit before 3pm. One night we ate at 6pm and the last night our reservation was for 8:15pm
