My Aunt & I just returned from vacation in Cancun. We were staying at the Royal Resorts Carribbean and El Conquistador was an easy walk from our hotel. The first night we decided to eat there we were a bit intimidated because the maître d' was wearing a tux and we were quite casual; however, we were welcomed to dine... More

The service was excellent, though they were out of a variety of wines listed on the menu. Additionally, it took about 15 minutes to get bottled water as it needed to be placed in ice (why they don't have bottled waters in a refrigerator is a bit confusing. The steak was a bit overcooked but the seafood and desserts were... More

This is located at the Royal Islander resort which is a new location. It was for many years at the Royal Mayan, another Royal Resorts property. The atmosphere is contemporary and more casual than before, but still upscale. The service was superb from the time we arrived until we left. The maitre de was from the Royal Sands and really... Tom and I went to El Conquistador on it's opening night and a couple of subsequent times during our vacation at the Royal Sands. The restaurant moved to the Royal Islander after the closing of the Royal Mayan. The opening night was a mess. We waited an hour and ten minutes for our appetizer to come and the service went... At first we were glad to hear that this restaurant would be saved and moved to the Royal Islander after the closing of the Royal Mayan. However our happiness was short lived. The atmosphere is not the same. There were better locations on the property for it. Also the food has gone downhill. Last year had I rated it, it... More

After a major campaign to save the restaurant after the sale of the Royal Mayan, El Conqistador is thriving at its new location at the Royal Islander. The dining room is beautiful with dim lighting and the tables are better placed so you have a bit more privacy than in the previous location. Although Jesus the long time beloved maître... More

This restaurant was recently moved from The Royal Mayan to The Royal Caribbean. We had eaten there several times before and had mixed reviews. There were 7 of us and we decided to give them another try and we are glad we did. The service was excellent and the food very good. All of us were very pleased with the... More

The food, atmosphere, service, and pricing were far superior than most others in Cancun. Dislikes-none

Excellent food, nice restaurant (recently opened at the Royal Islander), but service was over the top. They just need to tone down their service... they were trying too hard, that it was unnatural.
