Delicious food, great and generous host

This little place is tucked just behind the main drag of shops and bars in the north Hotel Zone. My husband and I found it from my reading reviews here and are so glad we did! Calypso is a small, unassuming restaurant that delivers well made local food. Quesadillas are excellent, filet of fish al diablo is wonderfully spicy and the sopa de tortilla hits the spot. Atmosphere is quite comfortable and Filepe the host is friendly and engaging. Price/value is excellent for the Cancun hotel zone. Highly recommended.

Went here for dinner. Small friendly place. Prices are reasonable but not a bargain. Seafood was fresh but they over sauced the hell out of it. Maybe ask for just a little sauce on the dish and the rest on the side

We ended up eating a few meals here and were not disappointed at all with any of them. Our favorite thing was the crab claws. We each had an order and a guacamole appetizer. It was perfect! We also had the lobster and shrimp on another visit and that was also terrific. It is a simple outdoor bar that was... More

My husband, family, and friends and acquaintances have been enjoying Calypso's since 2005. I have NEVER had a bad experience or complaint about the food or beverages from anyone. This is a sweet spot-a place that welcomes everyone, and has the best, freshest seafood, for the best prices, in the hotel zone. In addition, the funky ambiance, and supremely welcoming attitude... Felipe is a wonderful host. He acts like you are friends. This place is a hole in the wall. Nothing fancy here. Looks like a beach hut bar - food place. Food was good ....... ( from what we ordered ) not great , but good.

Food is fair at best. Can get better value for your money at other places. Not sure about how clean the place is. They charge a tip automatically. Don't pay in dollars only use Pesos. I wouldn't go back. Concierge tried to warn us but we didn't listen. Next time will take their advice.

Food was terrible!!! My daughter found hair in her plate and she did not eat her meal. It was way over priced we've had much better food at same price.

Every time we come to Cancun , we make it a point to stop by and get a drink and visit with Felipe. Excellent customer service, affordable Mexican favorites and great drink specials. Location could be a bit tricky to find, as it is in a alley behind the Aloft hotel. I happen to stumble across this place wandering around... More
