Cafe lechero, a must in Veracruz

You cannot visit Veracruz without going to this restaurant and trying the cafe lechero. I would be like going to the Asturies without drinking a cider or going to Italy and not drinking an expresso. This place doesn't look like much, it seems to not have changed during the last 50 years but it... read more

This of couse is a classic in the Port of Veracruz. Some people say that if you did not go to La Parroquia, you simply were not in Veracruz. It is quite a busy and large place but service is fast, try Café Lechero, the classic of Veracruz like espresso with hot milk served in front of you, and maybe... More

La Parroquia is famous throughout Mexico and known for it's coffee and is always busy. If you tap your spoon on your saucer repeatedly the waiter will come and add milk to you coffee in the famous La Parroquia style. The food and service is good and reasonably priced. The decor and style of the place reminds you of the... More

Julia and I spent most winters in Veracruz. We met so many other people who came to Veracruz to spend the winter because Veracruz in not an expensive location. There are many nearby places to visit like Boca del Rio, the Indians swinging on the high pole north of Veracruz and also in Boca del Rio. The sidewalk cafes are... More

If you go to Veracruz City, you must go to Gran Cafe de la Parroquia, the "lechero" is absolutely delicious (coffee with milk) , in my opinion the food is not so good, but the coffee is something you have to try! There is always typical music and dancers inside the restaurants because there are a lot of tourists. It... More

Gran Cafe La Parroquia occupies an entire block close to the harbor and clock tower in old downtown Veracruz. Open since 1808, the service is excellent and the food is very good to excellent at very reasonable prices. Waiters make a show of pouring the hot milk from shoulder height into cups of strong, rich, smooth Veracruz coffee. Excellent baked... More

We love Gran Cafe La Parroquia and its sister Cafe La Parroquia just next door. As soon as you enter you are transported to another era. Families with children, old people and happy couples populate this big and spacious restaurant. Ask for a LECHERO, which is coffe with milk serve in a spectacular way. In the morning I prefer a... This place is an institution in Veracruz. The coffee they serve, lechero, is a real performance. You get a glass with a shot of espresso, then a waiter comes over and pours hot milk into the glass, raising the pitcher up so the milk falls into your glass from on high, creating a frothy drink. The food is so so,... More

I recently visited this classic restaurant on Veracruz but it was not what I remembered...I must say a huge dissapointment. The waiters are very rude (they've always been like that I don't know why...) and they are talking with each other instead of attending the tables, it took a long time to get our order and so on. The café... More
