Description: One of the old, classic Veracruz cafes. Just off the zocalo, next to Gran Hotel Diligencias. High ceilings, fans, patrons with guyaberas and straw fedoras. menus offered in english and spanish - get the spanish one - the english one is a little puzzling. they do all the classics well and service is professional and excellent. even their presentation of Sopa de Tortilla is good - bowl of soup with side plate of tiny tortilla strips, chunks of queso fresco, chunks of avocado and slices of guajillo chile - rather than the usual bowl with tortilla strips already in and getting soggy. Ate there mid afternoon and an oasis of quiet and cool in the center of Veracruz.

A small group of us came here for dinner and it was pretty close to the worst service I have experienced in Mexico. We were largely ignored by our waiter, who was surly, and other waiters refused to serve us. We were seated for 10 mins before a drink order was taken. The food was horrible - drowned in tasteless... the food was just average and was the wait staff. Perhaps it suffers in comparison to the other Gran Café just a few blocks away

Mexican food isn't that great to begin with. There is no such thing as a Michelin Mexican restaurant. Charging 250 pesos for some pan fried, frozen fish is unacceptable.

I will definetly recomend this place for a breakfast or a little something in the afternoon. The place is quite traditional and the coffee is just excelent. "Cafe lechero" is the speciality of the house do not miss it if you visit Veracruz.

This was an uniquely bad experience. Happened on a Sunday morning about 11 AM. Seating is inside or sidewalk, I chose sidewalk. I waited 20 minutes before the waiter came to the table with the menu. I ordered coffee, orange juice, and eggs and bacon. After an additional 20 more minutes, I received the coffee and orange juice. After another... More

All in all, I enjoyed it here. But primarily due to the outdoor terrace where all the activity in the center can be observed. The coffee excellent and the food, passable. As always in Veracruz, the cafe lechero is not to be missed. I find the service difficult to describe. From friendly and effecent to rude and surly. Several times,... More

This restaurant is in the heart of Veracruz port city. A lot of people moving and having a good time. That is a something we enjoyed about local people. Locals have a good sense of humor. And they don´t miss any oportunity to see the bright side or make a joke of any situation. So, if you want to have... More
