One of the old, classic Veracruz cafes. Just off the zocalo, next to Gran Hotel Diligencias. High ceilings, fans, patrons with guyaberas and straw fedoras. menus offered in english and spanish - get the spanish one - the english one is a little puzzling. they do all the classics well and service is professional and excellent. even their presentation of Sopa de Tortilla is good - bowl of soup with side plate of tiny tortilla strips, chunks of queso fresco, chunks of avocado and slices of guajillo chile - rather than the usual bowl with tortilla strips already in and getting soggy. Ate there mid afternoon and an oasis of quiet and cool in the center of Veracruz.

Still a clasic, though not the original one

This famous caffee house has already some branches. Once it was located in front of the zocalo and a meeting point where there has been made no distinction between rich and poor. I went with my French friends to eat lunch here. And we really liked it. The service is nice, the music is classic and the cafe was perfect. That is a place where Ladies and gentlemen meet

One of the best places in Veracruz for coffee. I went to the one right across the malecon and had the corn bread, dessert section of the menu, which was a perfect late afternoon snack. Coffee is a little potent; definitely not your Starbucks medium roast.

We like this place so much that we ate there five times in 3 days. They are famous for the lechero coffee. The waiter brings a glass with coffee, then another waiter with 2 pitchers brings hot coffee and milk. Art this time, for stronger coffee, request more coffee; then he pours the milk into the glass from at least... More

Almost twice as much for a beer as other places. Menu was limited and overpriced.very loud musical vendors asking for money spoiled the limited atmosphere.

We had lechero (coffee with hot milk) here and a couple of desserts. I'm not sure what they were called (crepe with caramel sauce, ice cream with chocolate liquor), but they were delicious. This is a fun place for an afternoon snack.

A small group of us came here for dinner and it was pretty close to the worst service I have experienced in Mexico. We were largely ignored by our waiter, who was surly, and other waiters refused to serve us. We were seated for 10 mins before a drink order was taken. The food was horrible - drowned in tasteless... the food was just average and was the wait staff. Perhaps it suffers in comparison to the other Gran Café just a few blocks away
