Great setting and decent local food

If you are looking for a taste of Chiapas go to this restaurant. I ordered the "chicken mole" and it was the best mole I had in years. My husband had the "cochito" and it was really good too. Prices are touristic but, I would recommend at least eat here once.

It's a tourist type restaurant that basically encompasses all of Chiapas in one restaurant. The Menu is huge and portions are big, but not much quality. I ordered cecina and the meat really wasn't too appetizing, ended up leaving more than half of it, took a while to finally digest it. Service was poor, and they don't take credit cards.... More

We had lunch at Fogon de Jovel, the menu is quite extensive. The place is very typical of Chiapas, live music with a marimba, there is a girl making tortillas in a big comal, beside our table, which we enjoyed. The food is good, typical of Chiapas. Service was ok, the waiter tried to make the best serving several tables.... More

I think This is the restaurant located across the street from the Jade Museum. The Jade museum has information in English which is huge since everything else is only in Spanish. The restaurant has all the local indigenous foods. We ate there several nights. The atmosphere is also very local. A must for all visiting San Cristobal

We had to wait 30 minutes to get a table, so that gives you an idea about how popular this restaurant is. The menu is so extensive that is difficult to choose a dish. The waiter was so busy that it was difficult to get his attention but he was fast and efficient. The food is typical of Chiapas. One... More

We had our first dinner in Chiapas at the fogon in san cristobal. Food is delicious with traditional plates from Chiapas. Don't forget to taste the posh! Very nice. Service good

We went here with great expectations and out of the four main dishes we ordered two were un edible. We had to return them a fact that was ignored by the waiter and the rest of the organization. The cochito and the enchiladas were good. I consider it not worth the money we were charged. The appetizers were minuscule. The... More
