This is the place to go, order their specialty dish and you will get more meat then you can eat. Overall quality of the food is average. Waiters are friendly and the local music is not my taste. Not much of fine dining, really very touristic place.

There's music, huipiles, good food, several beverages. It is a restaurante and a museum, with marimba music, folk singers and nice service, in an old and beautiful building. A must for this city. Across the Street you can visit the Jade Museum, and also shop jewelry.

I asked for a parrillada with a selection of different meats, including arrachera (flank stake or tip stake) the meat was very hard and dry that I couldn't eat it, also I asked for mushrooms with cheese and they were not fresh they were from a can. Very disappointed!

Tender meat cuts, sausages and spring onions are grilled at your table while the marimba group plays. Tasty salads are offered as well as many regional dishes, like the chipilín soup, made with a wild green vegetable, corn and cheese balls. Tortillas.are hand-made.

This very Chiapan restaurant was a disapointment. In general, the food was good, but we were surprised that a credit card could not be used to pay. Although they claimed this information was printed in the menu, not one of the eleven of us saw it. I was paying for the whole group, and fortunately had the cash they required.... More

This is a courtyard restaurant with musicians - but don't be put off they are not intrusive. We really liked this place - the Mexican food was nicely done and quite generous. This was where we tried Pox (the local Mayan drink pronounced Posh) for the first time - pretty potent stuff especially with the Mexican white wine we had.

attractive restaurant with textiles on the walls and waiters dressed in traditional attire. Food reasonably priced. Had the meat feast dish between four of us - four kinds of grilled meat and a salad at 170 pesos (£8.50) each, there was far more than we could eat. Nice to visit once but would try another of the many places to... More

Situated close to the Cathedral, this well established restaurant gives you the opportunity to sample excellent traditional local Chiapas cuisine and drink (pox) at slightly above average prices. Great atmosphere with marimba music at meal time although being a Monday night there were not many diners there. The food and service are of a high quality.

Just a little off the pedestrian streets, El Fogon is worth a visit. It was highly recommended by two independent sources and rightly so! We ate early and benefited from resultant surplus of servers. The tortillas were freshly prepared in front of us, and the local dishes that went with them were varied and distinctive. The marimba players were a... More

This restaurant was recommended to us by some Mexican friends. The location is nice, the food is tasty but the service is really bad: slow, not attentive, not smiling, not speaking English. We asked the "pan sopa", which was supposed to be served in a bread. It was served to us in a normal simple bowl and we were told... More
