Consistently tasty and comfortable

Along with La Olla (my favorite Oaxaca restaurant), this is a restaurant that is consistently tasty, welcoming and comfortable. On my last trip I had lunch twice and dinner once with a large table of friends, so I got to sample quite a bit of the menu. With jazz playing on the speakers, everything... read more

Among are top-three in Oaxaca (see my other reviews), this restaurant serves some of the finest food I've ever eaten. However, though I rate it at "5," I do understand some of the negative reviews, as the wait staff is often young and ineffective. However, the food trumps that for me as, in 5 or 6 meals this year, the... More

Using unique Oaxacan ingredients this restaurant manages to delight. From the herbesanta wrapped squash blossom, cheese and chilli appetizer to the phenomenal cecina (pork) ribs cooked with guava and fermented sap (can't remember the name) the meal was delicious. The marinated chicken with Purslane is to be recommended too

So delicious, warm and cozy. Located on a charming street. You need to make reservations! The soup is the best, honestly everything was fantastic.

Warm decor, great food and the type of "bar on the corner " ambience where you feel at home from the first visit and where you feel like coming back again and again.

Try the sopa azteca - muy rico! It's got a number of good fish entrees too. Not cheap, but nice change to have more options.

We liked the food we had here so much that we went back for dessert and margaritas a second time, and would have gone again for dinner, but had several to try and ran out of time. The waiter we had both times was not the friendliest guy, but he was efficient. We had a salad that was so good... More

La biznaga was among the restaurants recommended by staff at my B&B. And they should know; their sister owns and is chef at La Olla (see my review of that fine restaurant, too). I was looking for small plates and healthy food. La biznaga is among the restaurants in Oaxaca that are proponents of the slow food movement. Believe me,... More

Delicious food and good service (we had been warned about the service but we had a great experience). Everything we had was artfully presented and fabulous. I had one of my favorite dishes of the trip here: hierba santa stuffed with cheese, pablano chiles and squash blossoms. Simply divine! Eat here!

Loved the food and atmosphere, great beer selection. The website and chalkboard say "very slow food" but that was not our experience at all. They have some classic Mexican dishes but also some unusual ones, and really good salads.
