Instead of salsa, the restaurant serves whole tortillas with spicy mustard as a starter as well as a corn appetizer. The guacamole was fresh with a lot of zest to it. We had two excellent meals here last month. The chef has trained in Paris, San Francisco and obtained his culinary degree in Guadalajara,Mexico. The food is Mexican but with an international fusion component. We also took a cooking class here which I can strongly recommend. The cooking techniques that were uniquely Mexican and the use of ingredients that I hadn't... More

There is so much great, inexpensive food in Oaxaca, so it's not often we splurge. But we really wanted to try this place after we read the reviews and it didn't disappoint. The food was simple yet refined and the flavors were subtle and carefully combined in each dish. The chef clearly focuses on sourcing fresh, seasonal, and local ingredients.... More

Right in the center, a block away from the Zocalo you'll find this great place. The place itself and decoration are nice and refined, I love the art on the walls and the high ceilings. The service was excellent, present but not too insisting like it can be in Mexico. Few options on the menu which is a great sign,... More

Lovely restaurant serving great food. Service was excellent and professional. Menu was varied and offered one of the best meals I had while in Oaxaca. Dessert was unbelievable. Highly recommend.

Dined here recently and was very glad I did after reading many reviews. Dined at a wide variety of places during 5 days in Oaxaca from top-rated to hole-in-the-wall and Origen stood out. The sweetbread app was one of the best dishes I can remember as was my companions chorizo and seafood entree. My rib-eye was great but thought it... More

We searched long and hard to find somewhere for lunch that looked good and were so lucky to find this place. This and Catedral were the top two places we ate in Oaxaca. Attentive staff and high quality modern food.

A fantastic time! Great technique that made perfect sense to this US Chef. The market tour alone was way worth the price of admission! The interns were great, helpful & eager as well. Oh, the beer & Mescal we not so shabby either!

Won't waste a lot of time...Just go...The food and service is amazing...If you are lucky to get a spot in the chefs cooking class, THAT is a definite...In a week trip, we ate here 3 times and went to the class twice as it was what Oaxaca is ALL about!! Excellent on all levels....Not to be missed...

I went to have dinner with my son not having heard of this restaurant and not knowing what to expect. The place is very nice and at first I had no idea what to order as I am not used to this new cuisine but we decided to take the chance and stayed. Let me tell you I was very... More
