Beautiful Atmosphere

We went with family of 6 adults twice: the atmosphere is wonderful, and the food was very good. Especially liked the smoked green rice. The second visit was unfortunate and had all of us wondering if a disaster had happened in the kitchen that night. Would return again since we heard that was an... read more

Awesome architecture and decor. Really enjoyed my shrimp dish, one of the best meals I have had in Oaxaca. It's a nice change of pace when you are sick of tacos or heavy meats, every dish has it's own little twist, but it's not overly artsy or complicated like some "fusion" restaurants can be.

Delicious, creative cuisine in a beautiful setting. This is Oaxacan modern dining. Though pricey for Oaxaca, we found the prices extremely reasonable, especially given the level of preparation, cooking, and service, which was as good as many of the best restaurants in New York. It is well worth eating here.

My husband, two daughters, and I ate here during July 2015. The food was excellent and the service great. I highly recommend it!

Origen is a beautiful restaurant with beautiful food. The presentation of the meals was gorgeous and the taste did not disappoint. Instead of salsa, the restaurant serves whole tortillas with spicy mustard as a starter as well as a corn appetizer. The guacamole was fresh with a lot of zest to it. I had smoked green rice with shrimp, corn... More

We had two excellent meals here last month. The chef has trained in Paris, San Francisco and obtained his culinary degree in Guadalajara,Mexico. The food is Mexican but with an international fusion component. We also took a cooking class here which I can strongly recommend. The cooking techniques that were uniquely Mexican and the use of ingredients that I hadn't... More

There is so much great, inexpensive food in Oaxaca, so it's not often we splurge. But we really wanted to try this place after we read the reviews and it didn't disappoint. The food was simple yet refined and the flavors were subtle and carefully combined in each dish. The chef clearly focuses on sourcing fresh, seasonal, and local ingredients.... More

Right in the center, a block away from the Zocalo you'll find this great place. The place itself and decoration are nice and refined, I love the art on the walls and the high ceilings. The service was excellent, present but not too insisting like it can be in Mexico. Few options on the menu which is a great sign,... More

Lovely restaurant serving great food. Service was excellent and professional. Menu was varied and offered one of the best meals I had while in Oaxaca. Dessert was unbelievable. Highly recommend.

Dined here recently and was very glad I did after reading many reviews. Dined at a wide variety of places during 5 days in Oaxaca from top-rated to hole-in-the-wall and Origen stood out. The sweetbread app was one of the best dishes I can remember as was my companions chorizo and seafood entree. My rib-eye was great but thought it... More
