We had a leisurely very fresh farm to table lunch here during Day of the Dead 2014. While the service was a bit on the slow side, the overall experience was great. The dining room is very inviting and close to the Zocalo. The food is extremely fresh and we had lots of 'green' choices. The wait staff was great.... More

We wandered in, having seen good reviews - and were very happy. Greeted first by a shot glass of mescal with guava - delightfully refreshing and delicious. Our meals were amazing, the service was great, and it was a wonderful stop in Oaxaca - highly recommend it.

If you don't mind service on the slow side with plenty of attitude, the meals in Origen are unique and extra-ordinary; plenty of surprises where Oaxacan ingredients are combined with unexpected ones like cardamom (as in the divine chocolate truffles with cardamom ice-cream). Decor is as unique as the menu with contemporary sculpture, mixed media, paintings and out of ordinary... More

The service was excellent, the decor was pleasant and unpretentious, the mescal margaritas were great, but nothing prepared me for the food that was coming. My foodie wife assured me that her salad.was the best she had ever had with or without the octopus, and my braised tongue was amazing too.. We shared the steak with its totally original incredible... Our guide recommended this spot for lunch. The service was very slow and rather impersonal. There was a live worm in my daughter's meal – which they did not even apologize for – and she then did not care for it. My fish was good, but not great. There was a lot of attitude for something that was not great.

Absolutely fabulous food. Innovative, tasty and great looking. The service was a bit slow, but very nice. It was a Monday so perhaps the wait staff was off. Four of us agreed it was the best meal we had in Oaxaca. Better than Casa Oaxaca, Los Danzantes, Pitione and Biznaga (all of which are very good). For entrantes we had... More

I had heard of this restaurant from friends who had been before so I thought I would give it a try while I was in Oaxaca. It turned out to be very nice and is located near the Santo Domingo Church. The food was delicious and the service was great although they were out of the wine I wanted but... More

This place may be a bit difficult to find, since it does not announce itself clearly at street level. It is only half a block from the central square of Oaxaca, on the upper floor of an old colonial house nicely restored. I have eaten here several times, both alone and with friends, and both for lunch and dinner, and... More

Nothing bad about the food here. They try hard and the staff is very eager to please. But Origen falls into the category of pretty plates and unremarkable food at remarkable prices. My test is always, " Can I remember what I ate the day after?" Sadly, the answer here was "No." Oaxaca is a tourist town and lovely dining... More

Beautiful dining room with wonderful food. A special place to dine but not limited to romantic couples - equally great with friends. Highly recommend for lunch or dinner
