Four of us attended a so-called "Zapotec" cooking class at about $50 USD each. The mercado visit consisted of following the teacher over to mercado to buy one chicken and an assortment of veggies, with no explanation of the ingredients or even the menu. Needless to say we had one chicken in all four dishes: the soup, the mole entree,... More

We were with a private group of 12 visiting from San Miguel de Allende with chef Michael Coon. He and his wife Valerie organized an afternoon class and lunch with Chef Rodolfo and Pastry chef Gabriele at Origen Oaxaca. It was the best class I've attended and everyone else agreed as well. Chef Rodolfo's passion for Oaxacan cuisine is infectious.... More

Wonderful, wonderful ceviche. Maybe the best I have ever had. All choices are interesting. This is truly a place for a sophisticated diner. Not to be missed if you care about great food. Also, lovely atmosphere and good service.

The food is interesting and tasty, not the standard Oaxacan fare. I had quail - well spiced - and goat confit, for example. In addition to individual menu items they have a tasting menu which requires that the whole table order it. The ambience is comfortable and the service excellent. It is on the second floor and requires that a... More

We arrived at 6:30pm with a group of eight people without a reservation for dinner and they were able to accommodate us. The restaurant rapidly filled up after that. We were all looking for something a bit different and Origen provided that - the selections were a nice twist on the more traditional Mexican dishes... sort of a Mexican fusion... More

I had a wonderful experience here. I was told that they open at 1pm on Saturday and I arrived alone and without a reservation. 1pm is early for lunch in Mexico and I was the only one there until about 1:45pm people started arriving in droves. My waiter, Oscar, was very attentive and knowledgable about the menu. I started out... More

Have loved and enjoyed this restaurant since it opened. It has provided excellent food and caring service. Teaching kitchen and classes are excellent. New dining space in 2014 is gracious with international and local design details. However, management needs to work with local merchants on this street to combat noise pollution. Optician's loud speaker advertising interrupted conversation about every ten... More

My husband liked his meal, but felt for the price, it really was not enough. He left hungry and we had to stop and get him more to eat. Hardly anyone in place. but the service was good, and so was the food what you got of it. Beet salad was wonderful.

We liked Origen so much we ate here three times in the month we were in Oaxaca, including the Christmas Eve wine tasting. It was our favorite high end restaurant in the city, a good value for attentive service and innovative dishes. They have a great wine selection, and the best waiter in Oaxaca, Oscar!

Having been for a reconnaissance lunch for my parents impending visit, I was excited to return on the evening of their arrival. We received a warm welcome and our table by the open window was pleasant enough, but when it came to ordering confusion arose. I ordered two starters for the three of us to share and three main courses... More
