Great food and value in Oaxaca

As American's and first time visitors here, we found a jewel at this neighborhood family restaurant. Lots of locals come by and dine as well as travelers like us. We were able to sample local main dishes with a healthy dose of American style vegetables and salads. We learned to appreciate the... read more

The food here is good, but with so many great places to eat in oaxaca, I have to say this restaurant is just average. The food is pretty Americanized, which is totally fine if that is what you are looking for. Those looking for a more authentic eating experience should look elsewhere. The owner is also a bit surly which... More

We ate here twice during our week long visit to Oaxaca. Every dish that we had was fantastic - you could tell that the ingredients were fresh and the meals freshly prepared. Make sure to try the Arracharra (flank steak).

El Quinque was recommended by a local and she was right - just good food. I had chicken in mole negro - wonderful, not overpowering; and my husband had a combo dish; both were really good. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is that we only ate one meal there - but the food and the service... More

We were told by several people that this was one of the best places to eat in Oaxaca. After a couple of meals there, it’s now a favorite of ours too. So you know what you’re getting: There isn’t a mole in sight, it’s not a chic, foodie experience, and the restaurant is nothing much to look at - but... More

This is a great little place with a fine and varied menu. And you will read about a lot of the items, but for me the bottom line is the burger. I am taking home to the States a whole new idea how a burger should be made and presented. The place is family owned and run by Carlos and... More

My wife and I happend to get to El Quinque certainly earlier than the local natives eat lunch and even before the Gringos filled the place as we were leaving. This fortuitous circumstance gave us a chance to spend time chatting with owner and host Carlos whose congeniality manifests itself in perfect English. I ordered the shrimp in a butter... More

If you ask any native English speaker who has spent any time in Oaxaca, they will ALL say that El Quinque is one of the 2 or 3 best restaurants in town. Do not miss this place.

This restaurant has beautifully presented fresh, high quality food. You can bring your own alcohol with no corkage fee. We went there at 1:30, the restaurant was full the whole time with people waiting to get in. Make a reservation.

My husband and I went here for lunch one day and split one of their fantastic burgers with fries. Delicious juicy tender beef on a good bun. Good service.
