I am from San Francisco, and have spent many years visiting Oaxaca. El Quinque serves quality, fresh food, at excellent prices, with ingredients according to market availability, with loving and artistic care. Generous servings of a variety of dishes, with respectful attention to personal preferences. Like SF restaurants used to be.

We tried Quinque on the recommendation of other guests in our hotel, but we were wary when we saw mostly non-Mexican faces inside and saw hamburgers on the menu. We figured we would suffer through it since we were already seated...but far from our expectations, the meal was an utter delight. For a hundred pesos each, the meal started with... More

Yesterday we joined a local expat amiga at El Quinqué. The place is cozy and charming. The affable, English speaking host and owner, Carlos was stretched a bit thin, as he was missing some of his regular waitstaff, but he was still very attentive and gave us friendly personalized service. The Menú of the Day featured pork cecina, salad and... More

I am mostly moved to write this as a rebuttal to Bill H's arrogant and prejudiced review. I'm a big fan of El Quinqué and can only echo the praise of reviewers such as stumpphil and ChicagoPatsy, both of whom well captured the reasons El Quinqué has such a loyal following. Perhaps I am not from San Francisco (*eye roll*),... More

Went to lunch today, highly recommended by several folks here. What a great surprise! They use very high quality ingredients, tastiest arrachera I have eaten anywhere in Mexico! Wonderful fresh and creative salads and I managed to sneak the bacon and yummy potatoes off my wife's hamburguesa plate when she wasn't looking. Very anxious to go back again soon! Nice,... More

We have been coming to Oaxaca for over ten years and this place is the best. Typical Oaxacan food is not always full Mexican but their use of fresh ingredients and tasty combinations cannot be beat.....always consistent, good value.....and full every nite!

Family styled corner restaurant with great service and delicious food. I was hungry for spaghetti and didn't go wrong with the Spaghetti Bolonesa, served with either lemonade or Hibiscus water. I chose the Hibiscus Water. The attached menu is the dinner time menu.

For starters, this place was packed every time we walked by with a good mix of locals and expats. The owners are from Monterrey and recommended that I try the Arrachera, grilled Mexican flank steak, a northern specialty. My family is from the north of Mexico, so I tend to be quite selective when it comes to Arrechera and I... More

El Quinque is located at the north end of M. Alcala. This charming little restaurant offers a great menu. The owner is very friendly and he speaks to everyone about the meals that are prepared at his restaurant. He also speaks English! My boyfriend had the mahi-mahi in a garlic sauce and I had the salmon. We had a pitcher... More

I have been there on a couple of occasions, once for the comida, and once for a birthday party. I have to say that previously I said there are no good burgers in Oaxaca, but I was wrong, their homemade bun, excellent meat, cooked to your liking, and the roasted potatoes, was delicious. The other occasion I had the comida... More
