Excellent Italian food in the heart of Oaxaca

I tend to doubt the quality of non-local food in most places, but Epicuro is offering really good italian food in Oaxaca (for all those that need a break from Mole and Tacos). Great focaccia and a lovely starter were offered while waiting for the main dish. Main dishes on our table included the wood-oven pizza (very good crust but... More

We kind of walked in here by coincidence, but it was a great place. It was pretty calm when we visited but it looked pretty nice. The service was good, just a little bit slow (and sometimes forgetful). The Italian starters were really delicious, great taste and very good quality. As main course we had pizza, they were nice but... More

We visited early the other night with another couple, one of whom is a chef/cooking school teacher. The service was exceptional, the food was excellent, and the ambiance was wonderful. We talked with the owner, the chef, and of course, our wonderful waiter Juan Carlos. It was a delight to know that you can have such wonderful Italian cuisine (Northern... More

After two weeks of nothing but the (wonderful) Oaxacan cuisine, we were so happy to discover Ristorante Italiano Epicuro, an oasis of fine Italian dining with a small, but welcome list of Italian wines – a regular list and an artisanal list with a total of about 30 wines. Stepping in off of Calle Guerro into number 319 one is... More

Having decided we wanted a change from traditional Mexican food we opted to eat Italian and made an excellent choice with this restaurant. Complimentary garlic oil infused aubergine (egg plant) with three delicious types of bread to start then the pesto lasagne and linguini "El golf on", followed by complimentary Muscat and caramel ice cream. All washed down with a... More

The restaurant is oddly green - it's moss green with dim cool lighting, making it feel like it's encased in a weird polluted fog. I ordered the pesto dish, so I wound up with food that matched the interior of the restaurant. It was fine pesto, nothing special. The service was great. I'm not rushing back here, but wouldn't be... If you are looking for authentic Italian fare in Oaxaca, your quest can end at this lovely, serene restaurant just minutes from the Zocalo. From the first bite of fresh bread, to the last spoonful of panna cotta, I was transported to Italy where I lived for four years. The more traditional dishes (including heavenly pesto lasagne and excellent spaghetti... More

Had a great dinner here, starting with the meat and cheese sampler, and the baked lasagna, 4 cheese gnocchi, and seafood pasta. Finished with crème brûlée and tiramisu, and we all loved every bite. The only, and I mean only, thing I wish would have been different was there were 4 of us eating and the meat and cheese sampler... More

My three sisters and I enjoyed a fabulous evening at this charming restaurant. Great Italian food prepared by Valter Epifania from Genoa. Excellent service from Juan Carlos. When we asked the waiter to send our compliments to the chef, the chef came out to our table, joined us for a while, making the dining experience extra special. Highly recommended.
