I visited this restaurant one rainy Sunday afternoon. As I wasn't feeling particularly hungry I ordered a salad and a beer. My beer arrived accompanied by a small dish of olives and later on a complimentary bruschetta. The salad was one of the nicest I have ever had, for such a simple thing it was extremely memorable and one I... More

As you can see we came here last year and loved it so much we came back for more. The place is not finished yet and the address given above differs to what is on the business card ( no. 312 C ) . Our first visit we had home cured ham with tomato bruschetta and then a rib eye... More

I called the owner three times to confirm and add to the dinner reservation. Both my guide books recommended this Spanish-Oaxacan restaurant and I wanted dinner to serve as a thank-you to two Mexican friends who had been instrumental in making my three-week stay in Oaxaca so memorable. The owner never mentioned that he had changed locations a few weeks... More

We stopped in at Meson del Olivo for an afternoon snack one rainy afternoon. We love the bar upstairs and thought we should try the restaurant. We were not disappointed. The owner came out to meet us and recommend a mixed sausage dish with vegetables and it was incredible! We liked it so much that we came back for dinner... More

Only okay. Just okay, overall. Food is average and it's on the expensive side - I went away feeling disappointed.

The Nytimes recommended the bar on the second floor. The crowd was young, the music was loud, but the service, the tapas and the roof top were fabulous. I cannot recommend it highly enough. Our waiter helped us pick a lovely mescal and four great tapas. The restaurant we had intended to visit the next night was closed, so we... More

Javier Olivo the owner/chef recommended two different steak dishes and we had one each. They were delicious, tender meat, one with a mushroom sauce and one stuffed with vegetables and served with another sauce. My husband said his was one of the best dishes he's ever had. The portions were generous, in fact I couldn't finish mine as I wanted... More

Fundamentally an above average Spanish restaurant with ambitious prices and small portions. Also felt a strange kind of pomposity pervading the place. First time I had felt that or left a restaurant feeling hungry in 7 months in Mexico. Fine if you want a change from Mexican but wouldn't make a special effort to go there again.

I had read really good things about this restaurant but I found it to be lacking. Our waiter must have been new because he struggled with everything. There was a woman who took over from him who was very knowledgeable, but the restaurant missed for me. The wine, albeit not inexpensive and recommended, was very disappointing. The food was OK....
