Good food, great service, lovely setting -- then cigarette smoke

A beautiful courtyard setting, white linen tablecloths, welcoming staff. Elegant without being overbearing. (We were comfortable in jeans, but might dress a bit nicer next time.) Live music (two guitarists), too. The food is excellent. A seasonal special, chiles rellenos de pescado... read more

A beautiful courtyard setting, white linen tablecloths, welcoming staff. Elegant without being overbearing. (We were comfortable in jeans, but might dress a bit nicer next time.) Live music (two guitarists), too. The food is excellent. A seasonal special, chiles rellenos de pescado (fish), was a clear winner, with chiles so fresh they snapped even after cooking. "Tortilla soup" was tasty... More

I had hot chocolate (a must in Oaxaca) great pastries and huevos rancheros, all under $12 dlls. The place is very nice, close to Plaza Santo Domingo in the Corridor.

The restaurant is located in a beautifully appointed elegant courtyard. White linen service, unobtrusive service, good food and reasonably priced. The restaurant was very quiet during the breakfast hour and seems to be mostly patronized at this time by locals. A very relaxing venue for enjoying a Oaxacan chocolate caliente con leche. I will look forward to lunch or dinner... More

We were introduced to Hosteria de Alcala by friends who are regular visitors to Oaxaca. The courtyard dining tables elegantly set with white tableclothes, napkins, and flowers were an indication that this was definitely special. Pepe our waiter was warm, courteous, and extremely helpful. My wife and I each had a bowl of Azteca soup, thick and delicious, garnished with... More

This restaurant has impeccable service, beautiful ambience, the best Azteca soup in the city and very good salads.. The atmosphere is elegant and the service is personal.

I have enjoyed this restaurant each time that I have visited Oaxaca. All of the moles have been excellent but today I had the tamal de mariscos (steamed seafood). The waiter was very attentive and spoke excellent English. The setting in a plaza with a fountain unlovely.

I enjoyed delicious Sopa Azteca for lunch and would have stopped another day if I'd had more time. Excellent service and comfortable experince. A little pricey for lunch.

Incredible service! The waiters go the extra mile to please you. We never had tlayudas before and he mentioned they were a must, so we ordered as appetizer. Tlayudas are huge tortillas filled with beans, meat, salad, avocado and cheese, almost the size of a pizza. Soooo good. This was our first visit to Oaxaca and he insisted we tried... More

My wife and I were drawn to this restaurant, located inside an old building, hacienda style. We were seated immediately and the server and the captain were great in suggesting the specialties. We were not dissappointed. The food is excellent if gourmet mexican is what you are looking for, although a little on the expensive side. The staff is friendly... More

This was our first meal in Oaxaca. We were anxious to try Oaxacan cuisine and this restaurant did not disappoint. We were served chapulines, chile relleno, and chicken almondrendo (?) among others. The servers were kind and attentive. This became the restaurant by which others were judged for the rest of our trip.
