We were surprised by a mighty rain shower and fled into the Hosteria Alcala to protect us from the rain. Inside we discovered a vey nice covered court yard and a lot of Mexican patrons. They were enjoying the great food and the classic service with very attentive "old style" waiters. We had a most crisp and fresh salad for... More

We travelled once more to one of our favorite spots, Oaxaca, for a five nights over new years eve. We'd failed to get dinner reservations before leaving Sacramento and started our quest on the 29th, a bit late, and with good help from the staff at Casa Ollion, really good B&B, the only opening was at the Hosteria de Alcala.... After being rudely turned away from La Biznaga and Los Danzantes for not having reservations, we were warmly welcomed here for a lovely relaxing evening of good food and wonderful music. My husband had a pork chop and I had salmon both done in new and interesting ways. They make a traditional Caesar Salad that looked amazing.

Went there with my family for dinner. The food was miserable: uncooked and cold. It could have been merely acceptable for a low budget restaurant, but we were paying way more than the average prices found in Oaxaca. When we asked for a discount they called the police (initially we thought it was a joke) and they threatened us until... More

The sopa de guias was delicious and we had high hopes for the Caesar salad: prepared tableside with great aplomb, wildly expensive by local standards. The result was comically bad: hard, thick baguette-slice croutons, whole lettuce leaves longer than our plates, not an anchovy in sight though there might have been one in the dressing. We ended up with much... More

Very tastfull traditional Mexican food. Impeccable service with a certain sense of grandeur/show. The interior is classic but inviting to stay. Good Wine list and Wine suggestions. The coconut crusted shrimps are The best in town.

Just follow the waiters recommendation and you won't be dissapointed. The waiter was very insistant I ordered the mole enchiladas and it ended up being a great gastronomical experience. Great location too.

This restaurant was recommended to us by our tour guide who said he liked to take his wife here for a special meal. The setting is beautiful - little candles hang from the ceiling, flowers are scattered through the restaurant, and a small water feature make it a lovely place for a quiet, romantic meal or a fun night with...
