Amazing food and service

The atmosphere in the courtyard was wonderful with an excellent musician. The service was world-class. As soon as it began to drizzle, a temporary roof came over the courtyard. As soon as a fork was dropped, multiple waiters rushed over with forks. Portions were ample and the taste memorable.

An absolute dining pleasure. Starting with a smooth Mezcal paired with grapefruit and chiles. The very professional attentive waiter saw me struggling over which appetizer to order and he said he would ask the kitchen to make me a special 3 appetizer sampler plate not offered on menu. My first bite of a unassuming rich corn tamales with a the... More

We enjoyed a lovely dinner on our last night in Oaxaca at Catedral. The atmosphere is lovely and serene - which is a surprise when you step in off the street and walk into the inner courtyard with fountain. The food is perfectly prepared - we are vegetarians and enjoyed the soup made from green beans. There was also a... More

This restaurant nearly ruined our trip to Mexico. My husband and I both got violently ill after eating here (and we are POSITIVE it was this restaurant as we had not eaten all day prior to the meal and the day before had eaten all meals with four friends that did not get sick). We are seasoned developing world travelers... More

Dear guest, We are very concerned by your comment. While we take all our guests reviews VERY SERIOUSLY, we have to admit that we are more than surprised by your review. Restaurante Catedral has been in operation for 39 years, with not a single case of food poisoning. Beside the restaurant, we also do caterings for up to 1,500 people... More

The place is very well located just around the main cathedral in the city center, and it captures the essence of the city with its decoration. You should be aware that taking into considerations Oaxaca prices this is an expensive place, if you are okey with that then you will have an amazing culinary experience that offers you the best... A bit more formal, but a wonderful place to try local specialties in an elegant setting. Good choice of Mezcals and cocktails too.

This is a beautiful restaurant with an outdoor patio and water fountain. The food was a wonderful surprise. Traditional food served in an untraditional format. We ordered a sampler platter which included large portions of delicious of mole, cheese and chorizo. Foodies will love this place! There also the added bonus of live music during the meal. Definitely check it... More

Delicious food and great service. Prices are high for Oaxaca but it is worthy. The garnachas were the best!
